I'm reminded of the "Balliol Rhryme", part of a satirical poem done by undergraduates at Oxford in 1880, targeting various dons. I was sure I read somewhere of a connection with Tolkien -- perhaps there was a later performance he attended? In any event, the first stanza featured Benjamin Jowett:
"First come I, my name is Jowett;
There is no knowledge but I know it;
I am the Master of this College;
What I don't know, isn't knowledge."
