The Germ

Funny but not qui-i-i-i-ite true
He noticed some impairment when he was 30 and it quickly got worse.
Still, to your point, he wrote some of his greatest music when was almost totally deaf: Symphonies 3 through 9, his Missa Solemnis, and the Moonlight Sonata.
