Tolkien Artwork

This is new, I think, from yidanyuan, one of my favorite Silm artists!

Fingon_Findekáno · Aug 21, 2023

Ooh, that looks so epic!😃

LaurelinBearsFruit · Aug 22, 2023

I like that very much! Elves certainly do tend to look excellent in an anime-style. I don't know if I can quite say the same for other races though. At least not like elves do.

Yeah, I agree. Given that Elves are supposed to look fairer than Men and have these fine and elegant features, I think the semi-realistic anime style works perfectly for them. I'd have a hard time picturing Dwarves in anime style, though!

Here's an anime-style video:
(English captions are available for the song lyrics, BTW)

Maglor Kanafinwë · Aug 22, 2023

Gimli:
Toss me.

Aragorn:
What?

Gimli:
I cannot jump the distance. You'll have to toss me.

Gimli:
Don't tell the elf.

Aragorn:
Not a word.

It's art by kurobit2003.

Wow, that was moving! Whoever created the art and the video did a great job of covering the history of the Silmarillion and conveying the emotions set within it. The song certainly added to it as well. Thanks for sharing, S-eS! I really do like the anime style used for it.

Squint-eyed Southerner · Aug 22, 2023

You're welcome-- it certainly expresses the sadness of the Elves.

Apologies for intruding something non-Tolkien, but it was bugging me that the first couple of bars of the song inexplicably gave me a lump in my throat, tear in my eye, and throb in my heart. It finally occurred to me that they're almost identical to the opening bars of an ost song from the Kdrama "Hotel del Luna":
I mention it on the off chance that anyone else had the same reaction.

Edit: I wasn't trying to derail the thread, honest! On the other hand, as someone commented on another thread, IU is an Elf! 😀

It really was!
I've seen their other works as well but not this one!
They have plenty of original songs if you want to check them out

LaurelinBearsFruit · Aug 22, 2023

That Gimli image is glorious lol. Still can't say the style quite fits him, but fun nonetheless.

Halasían · Aug 28, 2023

Galadriel was my 'elf-crush' from when I first read the books.

These are wonderful! I'd like to jump into them and join the Hobbits outside of Old Tom Bombadil's and the River-Daughter's home and stay for a while!

Embarking on another reading of Lord of the Rings and trying to dispel all my preconceptions set by the New Line Cinema movies. So drop your favorite non-movie art here!

ZehnWaters · Sep 13, 2023

A cheap sketch done on MS Paint, I believe, by Jenny Dolfen. Yet it's still my favourite rendering of Radagast the Brown. I never imagined him old and shaggy, and apparently neither did Tolkien.

Goldilocks Gamgee · Sep 13, 2023

This piece of art on Aragorn and Arwen has been one of my longtime favorites:

I’ve never been able to find the artist’s name either, but I know they’ve done quite a bit of artwork for Silmarillion characters, mostly the Finwians. I like the majority of their art, though!

That would be Choistar!! I love especially this one:

I always think Maglor needs a baby to hold...🥺

THIS WAS INCREDIBLE! Animated versions are pretty much the safe way to go with making something as huge as the Sil into a video! Man that was EPIC. 💪

I thought so. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed it. I believe there are more on YouTube; if you find any good ones, be sure to post here!
