After much effort I have failed to locate a video of a studio visit with Saul Steinberg while he was alive. In said video he is showing off a few drawings and one that caught my eye was a rendition he did of Minas Tirith in his signature illustration style. I thought it was interesting that such a piece from a prolific artist representing something from another prolofic artist hasn't been documented other than in this hard to find video.

For those of you who don't know who Saul Steinberg is her was a cartoonist who had a background in architechture and had a very ssuccessful career with the New Yorker as well as independently. He brought cartooning into the scope of the highest realms of art, a true genius.

That is frustrating. I totally understand.

Unfortunately for them, no one. The Valar were VERY clear about this. They don't even get re-embodied until the end of the world (assuming we're taking a lot of that as canon). I did find it funny that, while the Valar DID have to re-embody elves at some point, they were never told WHEN they had to do it (provided it was before the end of the world) so they were allowed to let Fëanor just stay a spirit for pretty much ever. A delightful punishment for the doucheiest guy ever.

Uhhhh... you do realize what that statement indicates, right? According to what HOME says, having that mindset is like one who wouldn't be released from the Halls.

If you haven't been healed fully, you cannot leave the Halls.
You have to be "purged" in completion (a more Catholic line of thinking) in Tolkien's mind, and such would mean not only over your own wounds but also over how you feel about others' actions against you.

Therefore, healing involves forgiveness because you cannot heal if you hold hatred/resentment for others. Forgiveness is never separate from healing. So as a matter of fact, anyone who could not forgive Fëanor for his wrongdoing would remain in the Halls... because it meant they were not healed. Same as with other characters.

It's literature, I'm allowed to feel however I want. You are right about others, in-universe, however. BUT the Valar are free to dole out whatever punishment they feel is just and it's stated, in-universe:
"On the House of Fëanor the wrath of the Valar lieth from the West unto the uttermost East...and your houseless spirits shall come then to Mandos. There long shall ye abide and yearn for your bodies, and find little pity though all whom ye have slain should entreat for you."
Unfortunately, those who were repentant (like Maglor and Maedhros) are caught up in the curse because they swore their foolish Oath. The only ones who were REALLY deserving were ones like Celegorm & Curufin or their wicked father Fëanor.
