If you’re a fan of “The Lord of the Rings,” you know many dialects of Elvish play a part in creating the rich fantasy world. Author J.R.R. Tolkien was inspired by several real-world languages to create new, complete languages.
Over the holidays we watched PJ's Fellowship of the Ring - myself, husband, sister and my 14 month old girl. I just finished reading all of the LOTR aloud to her, which I had started when she was born. So she's heard all the character names many times.
When Gandalf appeared on screen for the first time, us three adults all exclaimed "Gandalf!" My sweet child, who hasn't said any words except mama, very clearly said "Gandalf!" 😆 If all three of us hadn't heard it I'd hardly believe it.
I saw somebody wearing a shirt with a map of Middle Earth yesterday. Also, my younger sister recently aqquired an adorable toy dragon and was struggling to come up with a name. I suggested Glaurung and she actually named it that. She hasn't read The Silmarillion, she just thought it was a cute name 😂. Let's hope she doesn't find out that the toy's namesake is an evil monster, otherwise I'm in trouble. I just find it funny that she thought the name of such a vile creature sounded cute.

You're reminding me of the dragon Squishmallow I own, affectionately named Smoggy! (A variant and then some of the mispronunciation of Smaug, mwahahaha.)
And during a discussion today, he said his favorite movies were the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was already my favorite teacher, but now it's set in stone.
