Tolkien Moments

This reminds me somewhat of the Tolkien Moments thread, but I like the idea nonetheless. I also often think of the natural world and of Creation in general in terms of the labors of the Powers of the World. When we have a nice summer storm here in the Midwest or a windy day, I think of Manwe. But I especially feel a connection to and think of Ulmo whenever I hear moving water. The bubbling of a creek or the crashing of waves on a lake/beach makes me experience a strange otherworldly feeling and a connection to God and things greater than myself.

The following line always comes to mind in such situations: But mostly Ulmo speaks to those who dwell in Middle-earth with voices heard only as the music of water.

Indeed I sometimes think about that too. On Sunday when hiking back I suddenly realised I hadn't taken the time to sit besides the river and just listen to its sound, and maybe hear something of that Music of the Ainur Tolkien must have heard and head in mind when writing about it.

The Two Lamps. We see so little of them. I liked the early concept of them being on a mountain of ice because the Valar didn't realize what it was when Melkor gave it to them to use as a peace offering. It would make them look stupid, but it was a rather clever trick.

Yes. I like that too. I wonder if we can see their foundations somewhere... you think they are still around?

The images are really cool, but I meant more of real world images/places (pictures taken by ourselves or seen of some place) that reminds of the Ainur or quotes from the Silmarillion 😁 Maybe I have to clarify that in the initial post.

P.S. where are the images of the lamps from?

I'm not sure. Potentially. I've never really heard of them being anywhere. They seem to have been leveled or diminished to the size of normal mountains.
My apologies. I do love my home of Idaho. I went kayaking this weekend up to Shoshone Falls and that was amazing. I know most don't find highland deserts very appealing but it's home for me. The water features are all the more wonderful. Not my picture, but here's Jump Creek.

Reminds me of how the rocks and stones were made by Aulë and the beauty of water as described about Ulmo. Dry, but sunny and beautiful. TBH a lot of this reminds me more of Pokémon and adventuring in that world than Tolkien.

I honestly don't remember. I just looked up "The Two Lamps" in google.

Yeah he looks about fifteen there haha. But then again, tis the burdens of life and sufferings that cause us to show our age, not the number. He hasn't really experienced anything troubling in his life (aside from his parents being drownded) to this point, so perhaps that can be used as justification.

I actually had a small Tolkien moment during the company class reunion I attended last weekend (held in 33 of the 35 years since "graduation", only interrupted by the 2020/21 pandemic).
The daughter of one class member mentioned something about the first chapter of LotR "A long-awaited party". IIRC the only time since my reading LotR in the original back in 1985 that Tolkien was a topic of a discussion (always petering out quickly) and I was not the person to bring up the topic. I limited my contribution to my having read the book well over a dozen times, that Christopher Lee had done so far more often, and some Christopher Lee related trivia surrounding PJ's films.

Eyes were beginning to glaze over anyway ... 🙄
