Indeed I sometimes think about that too. On Sunday when hiking back I suddenly realised I hadn't taken the time to sit besides the river and just listen to its sound, and maybe hear something of that Music of the Ainur Tolkien must have heard and head in mind when writing about it.The following line always comes to mind in such situations: But mostly Ulmo speaks to those who dwell in Middle-earth with voices heard only as the music of water.
Possibly a similar one as mine is: over the entrance hangs a sign reading "TV? Bah, humbug!"What hobbit hole have you been hiding in? 😉
The Two Lamps. We see so little of them. I liked the early concept of them being on a mountain of ice because the Valar didn't realize what it was when Melkor gave it to them to use as a peace offering. It would make them look stupid, but it was a rather clever trick.Over the weekend I was taking a short vacation in the mountains. And walking through the almost total silence, beholding the beauty of far off peaks, cloud-enfurled, I suddenly was reminded of a passage from the Ainulindale:
It was this line "the immeasurable vastness of the World, which still the Ainur are shaping" that suddenly emerged in my mind when gazing upon this close yet far mountain on who's sides we can see what once has been the ocean floor. And I was thinking about the work of the Ainur and how they built the Pelóri or how Melkor piled up the Erde Engrin. And it filled me with great awe and inspiration.

Do you sometimes think about the Ainur and their labours when outside? What is your favourite reference about their work? Big or small. Be it a mountain or the littlest of flowers. The shores of the rolling sea or the very spring of a creek. And anything in-between or beyond. I would be delighted if you'd share your vision of the Ainur's work with us 😊
P.S. In lack of any other place I could think of, I decided, since it is concerning the Silmarillion, this is the best place to post it.
P.P.S. Mountains like those must have had a lasting impression on young Tolkien, and he surely had the likes in mind when shaping Middle-Earth.
I pretty much watch YouTube and that's it.Hahaha yeah I haven't watched traditional TV in a long time. Generally movies and then I've been buying DVD sets of shows I like, because I am fed up with most streaming services.
Yes. I like that too. I wonder if we can see their foundations somewhere... you think they are still around?
I'm not sure. Potentially. I've never really heard of them being anywhere. They seem to have been leveled or diminished to the size of normal mountains.Yes. I like that too. I wonder if we can see their foundations somewhere... you think they are still around?
My apologies. I do love my home of Idaho. I went kayaking this weekend up to Shoshone Falls and that was amazing. I know most don't find highland deserts very appealing but it's home for me. The water features are all the more wonderful. Not my picture, but here's Jump Creek. The images are really cool, but I meant more of real world images/places (pictures taken by ourselves or seen of some place) that reminds of the Ainur or quotes from the Silmarillion 😁 Maybe I have to clarify that in the initial post.
I honestly don't remember. I just looked up "The Two Lamps" in google.P.S. where are the images of the lamps from?
Lol great category title!
More... *Orccurate*, you mean? *Coughs*I wish the clue was a bit more accurate.
