Trivia Thread!

Green Tea comes from the same plant that also produces Black Tea and Oolong tea; Camellia Sinensis. The difference lies in the way each tea is cultivated and processed. Unlike its counterparts, Green Tea does not go through a fermentation process. Instead, the leaves are plucked, dried, and steamed at high temperatures, giving it its green shade when brewed.

Contrary to popular knowledge, Green Tea originated in China, not Japan. Legend has it that Emperor Shen Nung accidentally discovered the tea in 2737 BC when, unbeknownst to him, some tea leaves blew into his pot of hot drinking water. He drank it. Liked it. And thus drinking Green Tea was born.

Not all fireflies make yellow or green light. Pyractomena lightning bugs, for instance, create orange light. In the southern United States, you may chance across Phausis reticulata, or the Blue Ghost lightning bug. Blue Ghosts don’t flash at all, instead, they produce a soft but steady blue glow. Others, particularly those that live in the western United States, don’t light up at all.

Saturn's moons Janus and Epimetheus are co-orbital moons. They are of similar size, with Janus being somewhat larger than Epimetheus. They have orbits with less than a 100-kilometer difference in semi-major axis, close enough that they would collide if they attempted to pass each other. Instead of colliding, their gravitational interaction causes them to swap orbits every four years.

Tell me about it. I'm from the midwest and there are only two things about it that I miss, to the extent that my soul just aches to see:
1) Lightning bugs (the ones that light up) , and
2) a real autumn season where the hardwoods' leaves change colors, and with warm days and cool, crisp nights.

Roosevelt ordered, "Bring him to me." Schrank was led to Roosevelt, and the two men looked into each other's eyes. Putting his hands on Schrank's head so he could look at him, and to determine if he had seen him before, Roosevelt said to Schrank, "What did you do it for?" Getting no response, he said, "Oh, what's the use? Turn him over to the police." As police held Schrank, Roosevelt looked down at him, and said, "You poor creature." Roosevelt ordered, "Officers, take charge of him, and see that there is no violence done to him."

In local news...
A nova, an explosive reignition of a star in a binary star system, is expected to be observed sometime in the next few weeks. T Corona Borealis (a mere 2600 light years away) will be flaring up. While not expected to be naked-eye spectacular, it's still spectacular for the brain. Neil explains it all...

A sidereal day on Uranus (that is, the time it takes for the planet to complete a single oration on its axis) is only about 17 hours long. But the tilt of Uranus is so pronounced that one pole or the other is usually pointed towards the Sun. This means that a day at the north pole of Uranus lasts half of a Uranian year – 84 Earth years.

So, if you could stand on the north pole of Uranus, you would see the Sun rise in the sky and circle around for 42 years. By the end of this long, drawn-out “summer”, the Sun would finally dip down below the horizon. This would be followed by 42 years of darkness, otherwise known as a single “winter” season on Uranus.

It's impossible to have two objects that are the exact opposite of each other, because if one exists then the other, being it's opposite, won't exist, and therefore there will only be one object.🤯
Do you have a source? That doesn’t seem accurate. Black and white are opposites, up and down, etc…

And opposites are defined in math. For example:

For any number x , its opposite (or additive inverse) is -x .
• Example: The opposite of 7 is -7 , and the opposite of -3 is 3 .
• These pairs add up to zero: 7 + (-7) = 0 .

Angles in Trigonometry:
• Two angles can be considered opposites if they are 180 degrees apart (or differ by \pi radians).
• Example: 30^\circ and 210^\circ (or \frac{\pi}{6} radians and \frac{7\pi}{6} radians) are opposites.

And a few more opposites that exist...

Being vs. Non-being:
• This pair addresses the concept of existence versus non-existence.
• “Being” refers to existence or the state of something existing, while “non-being” refers to the absence of existence or the state of not existing.

Pleasure vs. Pain:
• Pleasure and pain are often seen as opposites in discussions about hedonism, ethics, and human motivation.
• Pleasure is the sensation of happiness, enjoyment, or satisfaction, while pain is the experience of suffering, discomfort, or distress.

One of the most interesting pie traditions was created in Cornwall to commemorate a brave fisherman, Tom Bawcock. Tom used to head out in the stormy seas over Christmas to catch fish to ensure that the local people would have something to eat. In his honour, the Stargazy pie is eaten on the 23rd of December in the Cornish village of Mousehole. It’s a pie baked with seven types of fish, including whole pilchards whose heads stick out of the top of the pastry, their beady eyes staring at you, so you always remember just how courageous Tom Bawcock was.

This reminds me, for some reason, of one theory as to why time travel is impossible.

Stipulate that time travel IS possible. Every time someone travels back in time, they change reality. Eventually we will reach a reality where time travel is not possible (or maybe never discovered). That is the reality we currently occupy. Therefore, time travel is NOT possible.
