After the Northern Army's annihilation, the Easterlings just turned themselves into Goblin mode and took endless holidays, without any further contact with their southern allies. As both being Gondor old rivals, Easterlings and Harrad must have been familiar with Gondor real military strength, and JRRT had mentioned that they had been in contact for...at least a time long enough to organize their 1944 offense.
The Easterlings should've noticed that Gondor still got their Southern Army as their reserved cards according to all kinds of their battlefield clean-up report, no matter it's corps count, hardware captured, and most of all, the documents captured, as the must have gotten the highest commander of Gondor-Ondoher's stuff in his command center, enough to make the Easterlings find out that how much strength Gondor still got.
The 1944 united offense by the Dark Lord obviously was "NOT-WELL-UNITED NOR NOT-WELL-PREPARED" at all, obviously, any thought?

This was when they caught them unawares while they were feasting and burned all their wains, right? To be fair, the other army was in the South, and they might have assumed they were still engaged down there.
