What are you watching?

One wonders, given Star Trek began in 1966, why Shatner and DeForest Kelley (with his Night of the Lepus, 1972), weren't able to put together a better showing given these were well after they'd had a good deal of exposure to acting by then.
I collected William Shatner movies at one time. One (in)famous example came shortly after Star Trek ended, a Western in which he had a duel role as twin brothers:
By 1974 he was starring as an out of control psycho serial killer in a low-budget film bankrolled by a Florida car dealer:

I don't believe he ever appeared on Perry Mason, but Kelly did.

As did Leonard Nimoy.

Shatner vs. Shatner is bad on sooo many levels.🙈🙉

I came across another film noir shown on UK Talking Pictures recently: Raw Deal

A prisoner in the state pen, (Joe, the hunky Dennis O'Keeffe) is visited by a social worker/prison visitor (Ann, the rather attractive Marsha Hunt who is wearing perfume - hint) and by his equally attractive girl Pat (Claire Trevor). During her visit Pat gives Joe the low down on how to escape - and he does escape.

Joe, Pat and Ann end up on the run together. Raymond Burr is excellent as a sadistic crime boss - making Cagney look like a choirboy in comparison. What is really interesting about this is that two of the three leads are women - unusual in a film noir - and there is some great camera work - rather like Citizen Kane. I actually found this film more satisfying than Citizen Kane (heresy I know)

My one nit-pick is the Trevor voice over which rather gives the ending away.

I actually watched some TV today! 😵

Track & field world championships from Budapest, Hungary.

I'm watching star wars. My favorite movie is Star Wars The Force Awakens. It was the greatest part of star wars for me because of Harrison Ford. I liked his acting and character very much. Moreover, I was amazed by the fx lightsabers used by the characters. This is what makes this movie more exciting and phenomenal.

What could be better on a lazy Saturday, on a long weekend, than rewatching the work of the fabulous Lydecker brothers? If you wonder what SFX were like before CGI, here's your chance:

Well, after significant time editing this last weekend, this Huorn really needed some 'down time' under the mind numbing soundwaves of some truly non-demanding Television input.

The selections:
- 1992 The Lost World and 1992 Return To the Lost World: John Rhys Davies, Eric McCormack, David Warner et all.

Followed by:
- 2001 2 part The Lost World, a British TV Mini-serioes affair with Bob Hoskins, Peter Falk and a few others.

I confess... I had forgotten how bad the dinos were in the 1992 pair..!!

Next 'down time' need, will step back to the 1925 and 1960 versions. Might as well remind myself how good Godzilla was compared to some others while I'm at it.

But the acting (by some of them) was pretty fair considering. How they could look at the Dinos and not crack up is still beyond me though.

Just recently watched 1953 Titanic. Far better than the Leonardo version.

When we discussed RP (Received Pronunciation) and OP (Original Pronunciation) at university, the professor showed this video to us. Perhaps, you'll find it entertaining.

As stated earlier, The 1st lady and myself have just finished watching Babylon 5. 110 episodes (not counting supporting movies, more than 82 hrs of watching. We are completely blown away by the integrated storyline, the concepts, the writing (Tolkien-esque in places), the characters, and the acting. Some of the best imagined, written, and acted characters I have ever watched. I don't think I have ever seen a fictional series that has caught my imagination to such a degree, or has taken us through so many tissues. The final episode was perfect - sad, beautiful, but not without hope. Probably next year we will watch it again. Oh yes, I definitely have a crush on Mira Furlan as Delenn!

Currently making my slow way through Baywatch Nights Season 2. Anyone familiar with this show knows that the second season may as well be a completely different show. It went from being a detective show to a X-Files Lite.

I finally looked up these movies on IMDB...
I happened to look up Impulse first... 4.9 rating. I don't think I've ever looked up a movie that had that low of rating... a record! (I thought).
Then I looked up White Comanche 4.1 !!!! Oh my! Poor Bill... how embarrassing.

Both Shatners are well worth watching! But then, I collect bad movies.

If you want to see pre-Star Trek Shatner, in 1963 he appeared as Alexander the Great:
My understanding is it was intended for a TV series. Didn't make it.
