What are you watching?

This post should be [sub] titled "Has anyone watched...."
So....has anyone watched the movie "The Night of the Comet" (1984).
If so, what did you think of it?

A Rick Beato interview with Nashville session guitarists Tom Bukovac and Guthrie Trapp, in which they played a couple of titles from their album "In Stereo", released 01 May 2024. Here, the titles were guitar duets, Bukovac playing a Gibson Les Paul, Trapp a Fender Telecaster. There's still amazing, wonderful music out there.

I'm working my way through "Dexter".
Tonight: Season 8 Episode 4.

With the weekend here, I thought it would be a good time for people to have the opportunity of watching this little 5-minute science fiction masterpiece (74 million views in just six months). Directed by the award-winning director Um Tae-hwa, whose feature film Concrete Utopia was South Korea's entry in this year's Academy Awards, it was produced by, and stars superstar IU (who performs the song) and costars V (Kim Tae-hyung) from BTS:
(Turn on the subtitles!)

It operates on multiple levels, and crams so much into five minutes, that I'm breaking the usual to welcome comments/discussion here, or via PM, If you prefer. For now, I'll just say it's the most emotionally devastating "music video" I've seen in years -- maybe ever. I don't mind admitting to tearing up a little, every time I watch it. 😢 *

* Leading one of our members to recommend a name change to "Softie Southerner". 😄

(Looking at you, @Maedhros_Nelyafinwë! 😉

I loved this short, and the music, and the artistic direction. Whoever was the director and art and set designer was immensely talented.

Everyone's listed in the credits at the end -- including the cube!

By the way -- she was suffering from the flu during the recording for the video, as can be seen here:
The engineer was worried about her, but she insisted on pushing through.

And should anyone wonder if the recording was "manipulated", here she is performing it live, at the beginning of her first world tour:
Unlike so many "idols", she never lips-syncs, always singing live, always pouring heart and soul into every performance.

I wish I could have gone to one of her US concerts, but aside from the fact that tickets sold out in 20 minutes, I doubt I'd have been able to see through my tears. 😭

I loved this short
There's certainly much to unpack, and it must be admitted that some is "Korean-specific". To cite one small example, I'm told that when she taps his chest three times, it means "I love you" in Korean sign language. (😭)

Nevertheless, people from around the world seem to react in similar ways; here's a sample:
That girl apparently had to stop filming for a while afterwards. 😄

Just finished watching Hitchcock's movie "Notorious" (1946, B/W), part spy, part suspense, part noir.
Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, and Claude Rains. Good story....rates a 7.9 on IMDb.

I have yet to see every film Hitchcock directed.... at least a half dozen or still to watch. And I'm not above re-watching his movies, tho' some are decidedly better than others. This was the first time for "Notorious".
Like his Psycho, Notorious has a character's "mommy" problems that partly drives the plot.
(Hitchcock had his own "mommy" problems, hence he has sometimes projected them onto some of his characters.)

Just watched 'Deadpool and Wolverine' at my local cinema. Definitely one for the big screen. Full of in-jokes and knowing cameos, it's something you could go back to more than once just to enjoy the bits you missed. Not for anyone who isn't ok with gore though!

Do you think they finally died? Is it the reason why you find the movie sad? I mean, maybe they are alive. We've seen only their clothes at the end. It was just like the episode with Frodo's clothes. And Frodo was alive.

Maybe. Some people point to the fact that they're shown being lifted up at the end as meaning they're "transitioning to a higher plane" or something. But that's as seen through the camcorder screen, which all along has been showing their ideal lives, not the reality. And notice how they begin to smoke, when the cube turns red.

As much as I'd like to believe they live, I have to conclude they die at the end; I don't think the last shot of IU makes sense otherwise. 😭

Several interviews with John Cleese, starting with one on Dick Cavett's show in 1979, at Cornell University (where Cleese had been a visiting professor since 1999) in 2017, on Dutch TV around the same time, and with Eric Idle in Los Angeles in 2014.

More John Cleese, from his 2014 book tour, and now one from last year in Australia (@Halasían ), Cleese being interviewed by Jon Anderson.

I watched it when you first posted it. Now that I'm taking a second look I see there's a lot there. I had to watch it at reduced speed to catch a lot of things (symbolism of which I certainly don't understand.)

Throwing video cassettes at the pictures on the wall??
All the guests at the party are black-masked and making very strange hand gestures??
I noticed that the point of view when he attacks the cube shifts as though we are now inside the cube watching him beat us, I think.

A most-intriguing video.
