Deadpool was streaming live on cable so I watched it. It was funny, entertaining, and the plot was okay. However, it was extremely vulgar, and I'm usually fine with that. But this was enough to make me uncomfortable, even with it probably being censored since it was on cable. At least that's what Grok told me. Hey, but Ryan Reynolds was an awesome Deadpool, I'll give it that. Have any of you ever watched it?
I did watched Star Trek 3 days ago. The 2009 one I think. It was a really good movie. Very enjoyable.
Oh, I did go to the theater and watched the Great Awakening. It was not a good movie. It was twisted to make you feel certain emotions, and I felt it was very manipulative. So, the casting wasn't done very well, it looked like people from this century went back in time and pretended to be the founding fathers. But it was the storyline that really annoyed me. Do you ever watched historical movies, see a scene and wonder, "Did that actually happen?" Well, this movie was like that. Except it was with every scene. So it follows the life of George Whitfield, and he starts out as a non-believer, than he becomes a Christian. Then he tries to crucify himself. Sorry, what the hell is up with that?? That never happened. It was all to push the message that you can't earn your way to heaven. So, as a Christian, I saw this as selling the truth with lies. And I find that messed up. Then Whitfield basically becomes this perfect, Jesus-like figure. I found that disturbing. Thanos And they cut out all the drama he had in real life, and made him seem like an angel. So, there's a line between changing little things when adapting fiction, and changing a bunch of things when adapting history to the point where it is closer to fiction. Also, have guys ever read or watched soemthijg where the characters randomly have mood swings? Suddenly theyre crying and suddenly they're angry? It felt like reading Dune. For my fellow Dune fans who've read the books, youd know that the characters do go through strange emotion changes randomly. That happened in the movie. So, suddenly dramatic music would play and the characters would have a change of heart. In all, and I'm saying this as a Christian, it seemed to be have written by goody goody Christians who want you to believe and will lie to get you to believe. This is shameful. Soso, that was a disappointing.
I've watched many new trailers of movies.
They're making a Devil Wears Prada 2. Can't wait til that bombs.
Same thing for the Animal Farm movie. Sorry, but those who have read the book would know that it is dark and the message behind it clear. It's funny how the book is a tragedy, but even the older movie on it made it a comedy. In the sense that there was a happy ending. Because in the book, I remember reading the end and being like, "Damn, that was depressing." But this looks like a comedy. Disappointing
Same thing for the diabolical Harry Potter reboot. The claim was to be book accurate. Not to be racist, but how is it book accurate if Snape is black? And they said Voldemort could be a woman. Some people were saying it could be Cynthia Erivo. Praying they were joking. I'm literally crying. Why is the casting open to women?? Imagine the Wicked Witch of the West playing Voldemort. We're doomed.
Now, Brand New Day, I'm hopeful for. I like the idea of Tom becoming more Spider-like. I mean Peter. It's interesting. I'm more worried about the characters. Daredevil? I don't think that's gonna land well. But I'm hopeful. If they screw this up, it will be a tragedy, since all the other Spider-Man movies were good.
Dunesday. I'm excited for Doomsday and Dune 3. Sadly, in the trailer of Dune 3, I had zero idea what was going on. Chani seems better though. But I'm far more worried about Doomsday. Oh, I hope it's good. It's gonna be tough, but I just hope it's good.
Yea, it was a complete mocking of the og book.I saw the trailer for Animal Farm, it's ridiculous that they're making it into a kid's movie. Just because it's about animals that doesn't mean that it has to be comedic. I honestly don't know why they're going that direction, it's like making The Boy in the Striped Pajamas into a comedy show for kids. It just doesn't work. Animal Farm is meant to feel like a kid's story gone wrong, that doesn't mean it's actually a kid's story. Yes, kids who are mature can read it, but it's not inherently a story for kids, let alone a comedy.
I did watch Hamilton lately, I really enjoyed it. I like all the foreshadowing that they included.
I loved this movie! I for some reason found it funny that Dr. Anthony Edwardes kept passing out.Watching an old Hitchcock
Yeah it made me laugh when he saw the hair from the brush in his shaving cream and made him go loopy 😂I loved this movie! I for some reason found it funny that Dr. Anthony Edwardes kept passing out.
I am eagerly awaiting for A Great Awakening to come to my library! (I prefer it to watching in the theater.) I got to listen to "Awaken Us Today" and thought it was literally so perfect in that it truly felt like a hymn and was very fitting not only for what I expect to see in the movie but also applicable to us, well, today.Today I went to go see A Great Awakening. I can very easily say, this film has swiftly jumped to being one of the best movies I have seen in a while! It was excellent in every way. Taking place during the early years of America's founding around the Revolutionary War, it focuses on Benjamin Franklin and his friendship with Reverend George Whitefield, and the monumental impact Whitefield had in awakening the hearts of the people to Jesus Christ. This film is heavily sourced with historical accounts, from the actual writings of Benjamin Franklin and other people and events from back then, so it is largely accurate in who these historical figures were, what they said, what they did, etc.
Now, I know there is another, far more sour opinion of this movie further above in this thread, and I honestly think the viewer completely missed the whole spirit and truth of the movie and its purpose. This story was so powerful, so moving, and it set my heart on fire in a way few movies have before.
It shows a great example of how two people with very different opinions and ideals can still be friends and respectful towards each other, as was the case with Ben Franklin and George Whitefield. Neither are perfect, and the film showcases their flaws and low moments, but that's what makes them human. What human has ever been perfect, except Jesus? Both men are trying to do their best with the passions they've been given. Reverend Whitefield goes around from town to town proclaiming liberty and freedom, pointing people to who the true source of freedom and life is. He sees and cares for those forgotten and poor, demonstrating powerful acts of service out of love for the people. There were many moments where I was greatly moved and nearly wept.
A unique element in this movie was, at several moments throughout the people sing a hymn, called "Awaken Us Today". It's beautiful, it's moving, and it sounds like any other hymn, as in, it sounds like a song that's existed for a long time. However, it was actually an original hymn written for the film! It's been stuck in my head all evening, so I went to iTunes and bought the whole soundtrack for the movie.
I had been waiting eagerly for months to see this movie, as I am very familiar with the studio who made it, Sight & Sound, and I know everything they make is high-quality, with a deep heart for sharing the truth. I was certainly not disappointed! Considering this year is the 250th Anniversary for America, I think the movie is very timely, and very important in understanding our history. A Great Awakening is a movie I would love to watch again, and I highly, highly recommend others to see it if they can.
To quote a common line in the film, "A single candle can light thousands." ✨
I am going to see this next week with my family! I am glad to see you loved it; now I am especially looking forward to seeing it. And yes, you're right - what perfect timing! Is it just me or do you feel America could have/is starting to have a revival?Today I went to go see A Great Awakening. Yeah what scene was very powerful for a B movie.Another in the excellent horror series Val Lewton produced for RKO -- this one directed by that master of understatement, Jacques Tourneur.
