What change in the movies ticks you off the most?

Big eyed freak

You know, I was totally distracted by Elijah Wood's saucer eyes every five seconds...
a useless post, but had to get it out...
Although Frodo in the book may have had big saucer eyes so this may not exactly be a change

I might as well get my dig in here...

This really ticked me off:

Galadriel to Frodo (telepathically) -
"He will try to take the Ring. You know of whom I speak."

We didn't need this at all. It totally spoils what might have been a little surprise when Boromir goes after the Ring. We had plenty of foreshadowing without Galadriel's explicit statement. We have Boromir's comments at the COE about wanting to use the Ring. There's the incident on Cahadhras. We have the part where Galadriel is tempting the Fellowship and shows the complete constast between how Boromir returns her stare and how Frodo does. We also have the part where they pull onto shore at Parth Galen and Boromir is staring intently at Frodo. This was more than enough, why did PJ go and spoil it with Galadriel's pronouncement?

Thanks, PRH...Now I have something else to gripe about...they just keep coming and coming!

I never even noticed that telepathic message...I agree...stupid, stupid, stupid....

Alright PJ fans, start justifying this "little" thing like the many other additions, subtractions, distortions and alterations that carry the plot and characters farther and farther from the book you all have been justifying for months....Though just admitting that PJ did some stupid things in the film would probably go farther to your credibility in a purist's eyes...;)

Its remarkable that such a good movie could contain one terrible moment after another. In the book:

"Yet hope remains while all the Company is true." And with that word she held them with her eyes, and in silence looked searchingly at each of them in turn.

Now THAT would be a great movie moment. I am glad you did not make LOTR:FOTR which would have been the last movie in a series of one.

It is in the movie, isn't it?
It's one of the lines she actually says and we don't just hear it whispered into Frodo's ear.

I'm going to have to agree that this doesn't work. For the simple reason that if Galadriel knew that Boromir would take the ring she should have locked him up. In the book she knew he was in peril which is rather different.

Absolutely, this is in the movie - and it's a great moment. Furthermore, it highlights (almost a little too much) the contrast between Boromir and Sam. Notice how Boromir was all self conscious while Sam, being innocent of heart held her gaze (althought in book-speak only Aragorn and Legolas were supposed to hold her gaze). Then PJ did a nice subtle thing to distract us from this when Boromir and Aragorn talked about hope in the next scene. "Oh....THAT'S what had Boromir so embarrased in the last scene! -- he's in despair about Gondor!" But the subtext is really that Galadriel was tempting him with an opportunity to get the Ring -- the HOPE he couldn't see -- brilliant, and true to the book! But then...this is all runined in the next scene (the Mirror) when Galadriel explicitly warns Frodo about Boromir's plans.

Lame treatment of suspense.

edit
Harad, don't get me wrong - I still count myself among the FAD's - I'm just not above point out the flaws (especially considering we're running out of material). Call me a 89% FAD.

Horsed Nazgul counting

Just a small gripe. I felt the scenes whenthe horsed Nazgul are chasing Frodo and Arwen went on too long. I have also tried many times to count the number of riders who are after her on the split second when you look downon them charging across the open plain. There seemed to be 9? However there must have been only 8 because then Arwen gets waylaid agin and has to duck in and out of the bushes before reaching Rivendell.
Has anyone been able to count the horses chasing Frodo and A?

i have seen it 4 times now, and i think PJ has sent another version out to the cinema to comply with the ratings!
i cant remember the "60 years later caption" in the first viewing, and the chase has been shortened but now it looks crap.

i think there were 5 intially and then joined by another 4 to make the V shape

I was really annoyed that Gandalf was portrayed as a silly old man, especially at the door to the mines when he couldn't figure out the riddle but frodo could (not in the book):-(

on a diferent note...

Who had flashbacks of "The Matrix" when, during the meeting of the council in Rivendell, Elrond saying "The ring must be destroyed".

Sounded ever so like, as Agent Smith he said "Find them and destroy them".

Made me chuckle in the theater...

just want ed to share that with you.

Carry on.

pj did a good job! how would any of you made the movie in under 3 hours? i may have changed alot too, but then other things would be left. 10 more minutes of footage throughout the film would have filled in alot of gaps. still, i give the guy credit.:)

I thought the movie was very well done, but I was disapointed when Glorfindel lost his part to Arwen(sp?). I mean, she's not supposed to be a warrior. I'm not sure what the point in it was.

I generally liked the movie. I've started reading the LOTR again, I'm at the stage where the team reach Weathertop, and there's so much material left out from what was originally written...

I hope there's more in the "directors cut" edition of the DVD!!!

To add more of what was left out the choices were to make a longer movie--was not going to happen for a theatrical release--or to leave out material that was already in the movie. On the later, you probably noticed that the movie raced from one scene to another already--excepting the Shire sequence in the beginning which was a purposeful contrast with the rest of the movie.

I'm hearing pretty consistent rumors of 30 minutes of additional footage now. I certainly hope that it's included in the cut and not as a separate bonus feature (unless it really makes a segment drag).

I certainly hope that the additional footage isn't a seperate bonus feature, as well. It would be really cool if it was edited into the movie itself. I can't wait till it comes out on DVD! I'm dying here!

The DVD industry is such a money-spinner at the moment, with all the different versions of the same film (DTS, special edition, directors cut, superbit etc) that I think there will be plenty of versions to choose from.

the Star Wars: Phantom Menace DVD had A WHOLE BUNCH of extra features, including ...well, EVERYTHING.
Maybe, Hard, we will get to see all that was left out, or could have been.
THAT WILL BE ONE GREAT DVD!!
