"The days darken. It is the Dominion of Men, the Age of Peace, but the roots of Evil run deep, and always after a defeat and a respite the Shadow takes another shape and grows again. The inevitable boredom of Men with good, their quick satiety with peace, has begun to make itself felt upon Middle-earth. And there is another Evil, darker than the shadow that clouds the hearts of Men...

The New Shadow has arisen. This is The Fourth Age: Total War."

The Fourth Age: Total War is a modification for the award winning PC strategy game Rome: Total War. It is a unique Middle-earth mod, in that it is not bound entirely by the text due to the time at which the mod is set and the scarcity of information about the Age. This does not mean, however, that we are not doing our utmost to be as true to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien as we possibly can. We believe ourselves to be making history, that we are doing something that has never been done before: an in-depth design and graphical exploration of the Fourth Age of Middle-earth.

The Fourth Age trailer can be downloaded here: Trailer.

Our website can be found here: www.thefourthage.net

And our main forum can be found here.

We are always looking for talented people who can help us out with the mod. Whether you write, draw, code, model, skin, or just know a whole lot about Middle-earth, we could probably find a place for you on the mod team or as support. We are also looking for voice actors, so if you think you have the voice of an Orc, an Elf, a Dwarf, or a Man of Gondor, let us hear it! If you think you have skills which we might find useful then please make a post in our Recruitment Thread.

Another way in which you can help us is by posting in our forums, and then specifically in threads such as this thread, which asks for suggestions regarding retinues, traits and titles for Generals, and quotations from the books.

Thanks,

Apoc

"I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama."

Ah, but Rome: Total War is not RTS, but a mix between RTS and TBS ;)

The reason we are making a Middle-earth mod for R:TW, is because we believe it to be perhaps the best strategy-game out there. We are basing our mod on the works of Tolkien exclusively, while BfME is based on the movies. And lets not forget that R:TW lets you have thousands upon thousands of men on the battlefield at the same time :)

The Battle of the Crossings of Poros Demo

The Fourth Age: Total War Development Team are proud to present our first public release: The Battle of the Crossings of Poros (Demo v1.0). The demo is for R:TW 1.3 - if you do not have BI, you can download the 1.3 patch here. The release includes:

- Four factions: Dunland, Gondor, Harad and Rohan.
- Approximately six units for each faction.
- The historical battle, The Battle of the Crossings of Poros.
- All new frontend, user interface, loading screens (& quotes), music and unit audio (speeches & unit sounds) and more.

The demo can be downloaded here.

We'd really appreciate any input you can give so as to make our final product that much better. And for our sakes, read the readme and install instructions!

fadhatter: The development is going good; we hope to have a 1.1 patch out for the demo soon, and work is ongoing on the full campaign. As for whether or not you should reinstall: that's really up to you, but I would of course recommend it ;) If you do reinstall, remember to make a copy of your R:TW folder and install the demo to that one (so you'll have one regular (vanilla) R:TW and one modded with the Demo; that way you won't have to reinstall again).

Here are some more screens from the demo:
