What ruins did the Fellowship pass on their way to Moria?

Do you mean the Weathertop, ruins of Amon-Sul, where Frodo was stabbed by nazgul? They pass it again after Rivendell on their way to Moria. It was once a watch-tower in the kingdom of Arnor, which belonged to Numenorian Kingdom.

That's what Aragorn tells about it in the book:
"...in the first days of the North Kingdom, they built a great watch-tower on Weathertop, Amon Sul they called it. It was burned and broken, and nothing remains of it now but a tumbled ring, like a rough crown on the old hill's head. Yet once it was tall and fair. It is told that Elendil stood there watching for the coming of Gil-Galad out of the West, in the days of the Last Alliance."

No I don't mean Amon Sul, are you sure they pass it again on their way to Moria? Isn't that just a little bit out of their way by about a week?

are you talking about the movie? This is in the movie forum.

This IS about the film.

It shows the company leaving with Rivendell behind them. The next scene has ruins on a hill to their left. These are not in the book text or on the book map, and the company make no comment on them. They look picturesque and are quite a reasonable addition, but the question was, what are they, and I don't think there's an answer to that.

now you see therinlies the problem. I usually dont look at the backround of scenes.

I am very sure they passed Amon Sul again, anyway it looked the same as I remember it. Tomorrow I'll seee the movie again and let you know for certain.

It does look a bit like Weathertop but there's no question about it- it isnt't Weathertop and it couldn't be, as Weathertop is way to the west of the Rivendell and the company go due south.

That particular shot, and it IS only a very brief shot not a scene, is almost ALL background- just the company passing, small in contrast.
