We have all seen it, and it could have been anybody. Why did Frodo get the house? Why did he leave to be with the elfs?

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think Drivester is asking: Why did Lobelia give Bag End to Frodo after she was released from the Lockholes? This is one of the most bittersweet parts of the story, in my opinion. She was locked up with a lot of time to reflect on her life. Frodo was there to help her out of the Lockholes. I think her change of heart toward him is a wonderful touch at the end of the story.

"The day after the battle Frodo rode to Michel Delving and released the prisoners from the Lockholes."...
"[Lobelia] looked very old and thin when they rescued her from a dark and narrow cell. She insisted on hobbling out on her own feet; and she had such a welcome, and there was such clapping and cheering when she appeared, leaning on Frodo's arm but still clutching her umbrella, that she was quite touched, and drove away in tears...she was crushed by the news of Lotho's murder, and she would not return to Bag End. She gave it back to Frodo, and went to her own people, the Bracegirdles of Hardbottle...When the poor creature died next spring...Frodo was surprised and much moved: she had left all that remained of her money and of Lotho's for him to use in helping hobbits made homeless by the troubles. So that feud was ended."

Not just a change of heart. Bywater and Hobbiton were where Sharkey and his men made her son Lotho do their bidding, and where he was eventually murdered. Too many bad memories associated with the place.
Pretty certain that none of us would hang around, much less live in, a place where our only child was killed. 😢

In the book he sold the house and moved somewhere else to avoid the ring wraiths. At least that’s what I understood from reading the book.

Who on earth is Forbo?
Forbo is Frodo's heretofore unknown (by us readers) identical twin brother who was hidden away in Buckland all these years.
When Lobelia S-B relinquished all claim to Bag-End, it legally reverted to Frodo's nearest other next-of-kin, Forbo.
Except Frodo really wanted Bag End back (he didn't think he would ever return to the Shire but now that he has returned Forbo's legitimate claim to B-E has become a problem.) They are idental twins, and no one except a few Brandybucks has ever seen Forbo, so Frodo convinced him to go back east and live with Tom Bombadil and Goldberry (out of sight, out of mind). Which he did. And of course, Tom really knew all about him without even asking, because those are the sorts of things Tom, well, Tom being Tom (whatever he is) just knows those sorts of things. And so a very sticky situation (legally speaking) was averted about the ownership of the house. The End.

Oh, that makes sense.
