Dol Amroth

The city of Dol Amroth was founded in the late Second Age and is located on the western banks of Belfalas. It is the largest city in Western Gondor and is home to the Swan Knights, who were known to be the finest cavalry in the kingdom of Gondor. As a peninsula, the city of Dol Amroth was made on top of the high cliffs. Dol Amroth's high walls and underwater chains that protect the sea gate have never fallen. The city is known as the Seat of the Princes of Dol Amroth [1] and is governed as a hereditary princedom. The emblem for the Princes of Dol Amroth is a silver ship with a swan prow upon a blue banner, making it look like the ship is on the sea.

Sindar refugees first settled in the area in the late First Age. They founded an Elven settlement at Edhellond, which was about 50 miles of the peninsula. When the Second Age began, a Númenórean family that belonged to the group of the Faithful settled near the Elves' territory. Elendil, the High King of the elves at that time, was their kin, and he recognized the noble family. Elendil gave them the fiefdom of Belfalas and gave them the title of "prince." With this title, they built a stronghold on the peninsula and were known to be the Princes of Belfalas as the region was not yet named Dol Amroth.

During the Third Age, the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm woke up a balrog in their domain. The balrog was unleashed and spread death and destruction around the mountains of Moria. A lot of creatures fled the mountains, including King Amroth of Lórien and Nimrodel. King Amroth waited for Nimrodel at Edhellond to take their final voyage to the west together. However, Nimrodel loved Middle-earth so much that she failed to join Amroth in the journey.

The ship Amroth boarded was blown out to sea prematurely. Amroth jumped overboard as a desperate attempt to return to shore and look for Nimrodel. This caused his demise as he drowned in the bay. During this time, the last of the Elves have already left the region. With Amroth lost at sea, the region was named after the king. Dol Amroth is Sindarin, which translates to "Hill of Amroth." The first Prince of Dol Amroth [2] is the son of Imrazôr, named Galador.

It was said that Imrazôr married an Elven lady named Mithrellas, who was Nimrodel’s companion. Mithrellas got lost in the journey when they were escaping the Balrog of Moria. It was Imrazôr who found her and they fell in love and got married. Because of this, it was believed that the Princes of Dol Amroth had elven blood. As a coastal city, Dol Amroth was often attacked by the Corsairs of Umbar. [3] These sea raiders were able to slay the 15th prince of Dol Amroth in TA 2746. Imrahil was the 22nd Prince of Dol Amroth. He led a company of knights and 700 men during the War of the Ring. Imrahil and his men marched from Dol Amroth to join the battle in Minas Tirith.

As mentioned earlier, the Sindar from Beleriand were the first occupants before it was named Dol Amroth. They were joined later by Silvan Elves from Lothlórien. The Faithful from Númenor arrived in the late Second Age and settled in the peninsula. The last of the Elves in the area left in the Third Age. The Faithful and the Gondorians that settled in Dol Amroth did not marry any Middle Men, so all of its citizens were purely Númenorean blood. If the Legend of Mithrellas is true, then the Princes of Dol Amroth also had an Elvish strain in their blood. The House of Dol Amroth was related to the Lords of Andúnië. The people of Dol Amroth had dark hair, gray eyes, and were tall. Most of them were skilled harp players in all of Gondor, and they were asked to play during Aragorn's coronation. The people of Dol Amroth and the nearby lands were some of the Gondor people who can speak Sindarin daily.

Dol Amroth is the largest city in the Western region of Gondor. The city is ruled by Lothíriel in the absence of her father, Imrahil. The city had two gates, one in the waterfront and another in the west. In the game, [4] the city is being attacked by the Corsairs of Umbar. The Corsairs were able to block the port and capture the city briefly.
