Durin

The Lineage of Durin’s Descendants

Durin the First

Durin by Turner Mohan.Durin by Turner Mohan.
The first of the Durin's was known as the Deathless. He belonged to the original dwelling place named Moria. During the years of Arda, he was the eldest seven founding elders of the Dwarven race. They were created from the powers of Arda and Mahal or Oli. He was preparing to hibernate beneath the Orc mountain in Endor, but the Quendi woke him up. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien based the name from the Old Norse language. In his writings, Dale's spoken tongue had a direct connection to the spoken tongue Rohan and the Common Speech. It has the same link as English to the Norse language.

The Common Speech was spoken in our dialect. The Dalish was in the style of the Norse language. Dwarven names were in Dalish but in the film adaptation, they used the Old Norse language. When he started to wake up at the mountain during the year FA, he started his journey to a small lake in the east, it was known as Kheled-zâram. He was responsible for establishing a massive domain in Hithaeglir. The Dwarves and Elves know it by Dwarrowdelf. It was considered as their most important domain that ever existed in their life combined. But, in the following years, a lot has happened, and it led to its destruction. Most of them attempted to bring it back to its former glory days. The author, Tolkien, based most of the names of his dwarf characters from the Norse literature. It was the age of the Vikings. Durin was a known creator of beautiful artifacts. Durin established Durin's Folk, which consists of Dwarves.

His lifespan cannot be compared to other dwarves that exist. That was he was named the Deathless because of his longevity. Some had a belief that Durin was reborn six times. Every reincarnation produces a descendant. The first dwarves that existed knew that their founder woke up in the northern part of the mountain. Until now, the dwarves treat the place with respect. The Dwarves continue to honor him and his lineage. As the son of Gloin is near approaching the sacred place, he offers a song to his ancestor. One of the essential heirlooms, the Durin Folk values are the ax and helm of the first Durin. It was left behind during the TA of 1981, it stayed safe in Moria. The Dwarf leader led an expedition in 2989. It was when Balin recovered the heirloom again. But, during the invasion of the tribe, the relics were lost in the TA of 2994. [1]

Durin the Second

Not a lot of sightings were taken into account in the rule of the second Durin. There were lots of doubts about it. It was believed that during his reign, men and dwarves were working together. The men share resources, and the dwarves in exchange give them weaponry. There was an indication that this lasted until the rule of Durin the Fourth.

Durin the Third

It was rumored that his reign happened in the Second Age. He was the initial carrier of the item of Power. But not a lot of people knew about this. Most of them discovered his possession of it in the final days of the TA. Some believed that a Noldorin prince gave the ring and not one of the makers of it. It was thought that it was the same ring Thrain the second was carrying. During his capture, it was taken by Sauron's minions.

Durin the Fourth

Durin the Fourth was the ruling king when the final allegiance between men and elvens took place. There were all battling the same enemy, Sauron. He did not hesitate to send his Dwarven forces to aid the alliance. He lived in Moria during SA and TA.

Durin the Fifth

The Fifth in line for succession had harmony and peace in his reign. He also stayed in Moria. He has the possession of one ring of power, and it resulted in his domain to progress in harmony. He was oblivious to the threat that is beneath his kingdom. It was known as the Valaraukar. They were spirits of Arda that turned evil because of Morgoth's influence.

Durin the Sixth

During the sixth's succession to the throne, the Valaraukar was awakened in Moria at last. It was the first incident the creature attacked. His ancestors never knew that the monster was sleeping underneath their realm. The sixth king was surprised and was unprepared, to say the least. He was the original king that was slaughtered by the monster underneath. He was killed in the year 1980. It was later known as the bane of Durin's existence. His son rose into succession and was killed by the creature too. Nain the first was replaced by Thrain the First.

Durin the Seventh and the Last inline

He was the seventh and the last one in line to the succession. Durin, the first's lineage, stops at him. At the end of the war of the allied forces, there was a prophecy about Dain's heir being only one left in his lineage. He headed his troops from the mountain to Moria to reclaim what was once theirs. After a few centuries in the previous age, the dwarves never achieved what they were longing for a long time. Durin's lineage disappeared from the Middle Earth.

The Durin's House of Descendants

In the adaptations, nine members appeared in the installations. They were mountain king, Kili, Fili, Dwalin, Balin, Gimli, Gloin, Oin, and Dain. The other three persons have no direct line to Thorin but appeared in the series. It was Ori, Nori, and Dori. [2]
