His Life Journal
Helm Hammerhand was known as the King of Mark's ninth successor to the throne. Born in the Third Age of 2691, his father was Rohan’s eight king. He inherited the kingdom when his father passed away during a dilemma. It occurred during the Third Age of 2741, and he was already fifty years old. Throughout his rule, he fought never-ending wars with the Wildmen of Dunland. These men had a deep hatred against Rohan's constituents. They are blaming them for their banishment in the mountains. They were trying everything they could do to oust him off his throne in Rohan.
Before his time, Gram, his father, was already fighting battles against the Dunland wildmen. These Dunlendings were quite clever. They were using the abandoned Isengard fortress for their functional base camp. During his rule, he encountered some problems with Freca. He was a powerful and brutal lord of Rohan. He owned vast lands and wielded power and influence because of it. He has control over the grounds in the river of Rohan called Adorn. It was the body of water along the west of Rohan and the white mountain. He was a Wildman of Dunland and possessed the blood of Rohirric.
He declared that he was a direct descendent of Rohan's fifth king named Freawine. He was one of the Rohan's kings, and his rule lasted for more than two decades. Freca and Helm despised each other. They both regarded each other with such distrust and disdain. Their hatred against each other has no end. It ran too deep to be resolved. In the Third Age of 2754, Freca tried to trick and compel the king to give his daughter's hand in matrimony to his offspring, Wulf the First. Freca, with his men behind him, stormed to the capital city of Rohan to force the king to agree to his requests. A fight broke loose, and the king struck Freca with only one blow. The attack's brute force resulted in Freca's death. His followers had no choice but to retreat.
The king announced that Freca's son and his kinfolk would be his kingdom's foes. After a few years in the Third Age of 2758, an alliance between Wulf's Dunlendings [1] and the corrupted Númenóreans ransacked the king's city. These Númenóreans were known for their skill set to hijack ships from Gondor. The king was overcome; he could not match their forces. He retreated and went to the mouth of the gorge. He faced a gruesome battle that seemed no end. The place was later dedicated after the king's name located in Hornburg. It was known now to be Helm's Deep, a grand fortification of Rohan. The king and his second son, Hama, were ambushed at Hornburg. While they were facing a fight, the capital of Rohan was being attacked by Wulf's forces.
The last standing person to protect the realm was the king's older son, Haleth. He took his final stand defending the grand hall of Meduseld. In the midwinter time of 2758, after the holiday celebration at the Shire, the princeling with his trusted men hunted for subsistence. They never came back. It was said that they never found their way again because of a snowstorm. The king had a bizarre reaction to the massive horn in his realm. When it would be blasted, he would slaughter the Wildmen of Dunland with ease. Many feared him. It was even rumored that he was so enraged and consumed with revenge that he would kill them using only his hands. Some fear him much because they believe because of hunger he feels, he will devour them raw.
The king's misery and pain led him to feel such brutality. There was a particular attack that left him for dead. The following day, his corpse was found standing still frozen. His unclosed eyes were readying for a battle. The descendants of the Éothéod race and the Wildmen of Dunland believed that the king's spirit did not ascend but turned into a phantom. They continued to believe that the king was still defending and protecting Hornburg.
He left the mortal world in the Third Age of 2759. He was sixty-eight years old. Haleth, his firstborn, and Hama were one of the casualties of the battle. His nephew named Hildenson redeemed their honor and defeated the enemies. He became the tenth king of Rohan. The king was commonly known as the Hammerhand. It was derived from the fact that when he fights, he prefers using his bare hands. He possesses high power. There was a belief that when he uses nothing, nothing will hurt him.

Depiction in Adaptations
Shadow of War, a third-person perspective game with a version of Middle Earth shows the king Hammerhand becoming a Ringwraith. In the game, he was fatally injured when a surprise attack resulted in the abduction of his daughter. After that incident, a ring was given by the Noldorin prince and Sauron to him. He took his time to recover, and he drove his allies to take his revenge. Consumed with his rage at the perpetrator of the attack, his daughter became one of his casualties. Upon realizing what he did, his wrath had no match. He massacred everyone he could see. His allies were trying to soothe him, but he ended up killing them all too. Far from the description from the books, Hammerhand wielded a hammer. This tale occurred at the end of SA to further support the timetable of the game. The weapon, later on, was with the captain of the rangers of Gondor. Talion was one of the protagonists of this game. [2]
