In another thread, we (especially me) discussed whether there could be a connection between the Third Age and the First Age Easterlings... But I want to ask something beyond that. Those who are bored with the similar thread or are uncomfortable do not have to respond.

Can we comment on the skin color, hair color or height of the Easterlings of the Second or Third Age? I have just found the following about the First and Third Age:

“These Men were short and broad, long and strong in the arm; their skins were swart or sallow, and their hair was dark as were their eyes.”(The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, Ch 18, Of the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin)

“... Not tall, but broad and grim, bearded like dwarves, wielding great axes. Out of some savage land in the wide East they come...“ (The Return of the King, LoTR Book 5, Ch 4, The Siege of Gondor)

Thanks...

Well...my personal inference is that..."MIXED BLOOD".
As you see, humans in JRRT's lore are almost the only race that have no clear genealogy in total and they're the most populates apart from orcs. In addition, not "all races" have their appearance in JRRT's lore make their show^^. As an result, there can be only one conclusion that much more kinds of men have inhabited the deeper parts of the ME continent, and they're the only source that provide such multiple genes ^^

So basically these Easterlings are Mongols? Which makes sense considering what Mongols did in Europe... (also, Orcs IIRC are kinda Mongol-ish as well).

Hmm.....I prefer Easterlings as a reflection to all eastern nomadic or savage races in Europeans's view.
After all, these Easterlings are very very very complicated on their features, such as Variags are infantry-dominant in their military. Wainriders are dreaded for their vehicles, and so forth.
By the way, Mongols have been a complicated diplomatic status to EU in total, for instance, Mongols're allies to the Crusader states yet hostile to the eastern EU nations like Hungarians. Anyway, according to the "hostiles's hostiles are friends", Mongols might not be so unfriendly to the western EU civilization as Free people to orcs.(You must have known the so-called priest king John based on Mongols partially)
Just consider my offer, hope it helps^^
