The Battle of Helm's Deep has to be one of the greatest scenes I have ever seen in cinema.

For fun, I am curious as to how you would strategically plan out this battle if you were in charge. Some questions below to get the conversation going.

- What would you do differently?

- How would you position the Elves?

- Would you set up traps?

- Would you position Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas elsewhere?

How would you approach this battle scene?

I'm not sure if I would have done anything differently.

Re: the elves at Helm's Deep I would first loudly wonder just how in heck they got there. Someone school me, please. It's not just the teleportation, it's also that they had to get past enemy lines undetected.
I'd have to agree with this, lack of canonical accuracy aside.
Going by the Fonstad map, the Deeping Coomb was well over a mile in length and the enemy soldiers (10000) filled it, wall-to-wall.
Honestly, if we are to entertain the idea that the Elves somehow managed to get by the enemy, we may as well throw in, for the defense, a hundred Ninja bears with plasma cannons.

OK, so giving Friend of Durin a break... assuming the elves were already there before the enemy showed up (best not to ask how), what would be an effective deployment strategy?
I'll leave the answer(s) to those who have studied land based warfare, especially siege warfare.
(I was in the Navy, not the Army...right there with Aragorn and the Corsair ships he commandeered 😉).
