In the chapter "A knife in the dark" what "knife in the dark" is it talking about?

For in this chapter there are two "knifings"

The first when they are at the Prancing Pony where the beds get knifed.

The second when they are in the dell at weathertop and Frodo gets knifed.

So which one is it refuring to?

In that chapter there is also the attack on the house in Buckland. As the Nazgul were involved in all of the attacks I would say that It did not refer to any One of the attacks but to all three. All were in the 'Dark' and all were either by, or under the direction of, the Nazgul.

I always thought it was referring to the Morgul blade that stabbed Frodo, since it says A Knife in the Dark and not 3 Knives in the Dark, but I didn't think of Gothmog's idea, his way works too.;)

is his chapter on RotK? i havent read dat book yet. still on the second one

the title reffers to the actual knifing of Frodo on Weathertop. it is by far the most relevant, and i don't think that there was any mention of beds being knifed in the book....though i must check, but i highly doubt it. i think it was just a movie feature.

was that in the book?
read the book ages ago so i dont really remermber

A knife in the dark was in The Fellowship its about chapter 8ish,
Well surely only a knife (or sword) can slash up stuff...

well the pillow stabbing is at the beggining so it is a main part of a chapter, whereas the Amon súl was at the end, an eaqually main part of a chapter

nay nay nay!!! tis not "Knifes" in the dark! tis 'A Knife' in the dark!! thus we conclude that it's talking about one knifing and the most logical answer would be that on weathertop! thus it refers to frodo being stabbed by the nazgul knife, and not the waste of a few old pillows! and pillows that weren't even mentioned in the book!...i think!
so there! i have found the answer and that's that! reem has spoken!:p

And Godnor doesnt get put under siege until the end of the chapter: The siege of Gondor

The crossing of the bridge of Khazad Dûm doesnt come until the end of the chapter: The Bridge of Khazad Dûm

Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo, and all of the other people dont get to the Gray Heavens till the end of the chapter: The Gray Havens.

It is true that the "Stabbing" of Frodo happened on Amon Sul. However, the title of the chapter is "A Knife in the Dark" Not "A Stab in the Dark". The point of my post was that it refered to the Knife/s of the Nazgul which were most dangerous in the Dark. So all of the attacks were covered by the name of the chapter as they were all in the dark and all done either by or because of the Nazgul.

I agree that it is referring to the attack on weathertop as that is what the chapter leads up to and is most important.

well that is true, the beggining and end of the chapters are where the main things happen, it is no use comparing chapters like that as there is no real pattern
