Aragorn and Andûril

the first time's in Moria, I think

The earliest occasion that the tale speaks of Aragorn wielding Anduril in battle is when he cleaves "with a flash like flame" both helmet and skull of the huge orc-chieftain who has apparently just skewered the Ringbearer with a spear-thrust in the Chamber of Mazarbul, although the NewLine movie has him hacking with it (presumably, but quite unheralded) and Boromir's aid for more than twenty seconds of screen-time at the thrashing arms of the Watcher in the Water which is meanwhile waving Frodo about overhead like a boneless puppet.

The Sword of Elendil was remade at Rivendell, "forged anew by elvish smiths, and on its blade was traced a device of seven stars set between the crescent Moon and the rayed Sun, and about them was written many runes", the shards of Narsil made whole once again in the last months of autumn after the Council of Elrond, and Aragorn bears the Flame of the West "but no other weapon" when the Fellowship departs from that peaceful valley with an echoing blast of Boromir's horn.

... and we see his great love and devotion to the sword of his ancestors when he, despite all knightly decorum, refuses to take off his sword upon entering the hall of Theoden King. That scene in the book finally made it obvious for me just how Aragorn guarded his heirloom...

And you animated a 6 year old thread to say that!? Bloody necromancers... they're following me every where

And you jumped in with your reply and made sure this thread lives!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! My evil plan has worked!!!!

He used the great blade at Helm's deep and at the Pelennor Fields, where it cut through all before it, making possible the improbable victory.

After the last debate he said that he would not sheath it till the last battle was fought.

I hope he was just being dramatic at it would have been a damned nuisance carrying it by hand on the road, not to mention dangerous.

No doubt he continued to use it in the early years of the Fourth Age against Harad and Easterling and other enemies of the Reunited Kingdom.

Presumably it then passed to Aldarion, his heir, or perhaps it was laid to rest on his breast in the holy gloom of the Hallows.

It was a great and terrible weapon, one of the most potent ever forged: in the Second Age it cut the One Ring from the hand of it's dark master; in the Third Age it cut his armies to pieces and opened the road to victory.

Hello all,
It has been a few years since I read the books, but I have watched the movies many times too. So yep, something like that famous and powerful sword, forged by elves with a seemingly power of its own and an heirloom and symble of his ancient kingly line, Aragorn could not take a chance on losing or someone stealing it. I would never part with it either.
