Seriously though, this is really adorable! The frizzy hair had me snort for a moment and then I remembered my own dark times when I didn't know I had curly hair and should take care of it.

We don't talk about that. Right, Timo?

My lips are sealed! 🤐

And I went through the same phase when I was like 13 or 14. I just thought my hair was puffy, frizzy, and vaguely wavy. Until a hairdresser told me one day when I was like 15 that my hair is curly. I was like, lol, no, it's wavy. She told me nope, it's curly, and if you scrunch mousse into it, the curls will come out. So I tried it and lo and behold, she was right!

It is fitting that I drew Caranthir in my advanced tax class tonight! I feel like he is now a sort of guardian of my tax notebook, looking with begrudging approval on my notes about Section 351 corporate property exchanges. "It is a wise endeavor to secure a financially stable position for yourself while the world around you is dissolving into chaos," he says.

I've only drawn Caranthir once before in this snowball fight drawing back in April. I wasn't totally happy with the design. He was a little too scruffy looking, honestly. Here, he has some refinement. I made his hair a little neater, because a Business Professional™️ like himself wouldn't go around with his hair all messy. I'm also happy with his face shape. I wasn't satisfied drawing his face too square, yet I didn't want him to have the same fine, pointy features as Maitimo. So I thought, why not give him elements of both? Square jaw and pointy chin? And I believe that captured his face as I imagine it!

His super-pointy eyebrows give him a sort of scheming look. And I imagine his eyes as a very dark brown, almost black. His lips being very thin contributed to that image I see in my mind, and obviously, he has to have that ruddy complexion for which he is named.

Drawing Caranthir was a lot of fun! Maybe this will inspire me to continue to branch out from my devotion to drawing Maitimo again and again, but, eh... no promises there.

I really like his facial expression. It's quite reserved and guarded, and the eyes and eyebrows are stern, hinting at the potential for anger.

Thank you! I didn't really do that on purpose, but it must have subconsciously come through with how I see his character.

I guess I was Maglor because I did have the side bangs and wear smoky eyeliner. 😂 Not really in the emo sense though, more like "Star Wars nerd who's also cute." My look in the 2010s was the charcoal eyeliner and some awful eyeshadow color like blue or bright purple, a Star Wars shirt, skinny jeans and those slouchy suede boots. Yeah... that was a look, I'm sure...

I quite like what you did with Moryo here! I definitely agree the changes have improved him and better express his character. With your previous sketch of him in the snowball fight, there was something giving me a youthful vibe; maybe it was the hair and the shape of his face. Now he has more of the Fëanorian Look™️, having matured into a true Lord of Thargelion!

Ooh!!! Epic choice for this week’s drawing! I love the fine detail on his clothing, the way his hair is blowing back, and the obvious brilliance of the Silmarils. His face doesn’t look too bad either; it’s still pretty good, even if it’s not quite what you have in mind for him.

It also appears to be a rather large drawing, encompassing the majority of a page compared to the usual corner sketches. Makes sense. It’s Fëanor! He’s supposed to be grander than life (according to him). 😂

My jaw dropped when I saw this. How can this be classfied under the category of "DOODLES"? "Doodles" can't look this good!! If this was the cover of my copy of the Sil, I'd be stoked.

Some doodles from the past few weeks:

This was intended to be a formal hairstyle and outfit for Maitimo while he lived in Valinor. I really like how it came out. Where my other Silm outfit designs have drawn inspiration from the late medieval period and even the Renaissance, Baroque and Georgian eras, this feels much more ancient to me. I personally think he looks somewhat like a Greek mythical hero here.

From a scene in Ill Chances and Strange Fates, which has not been posted yet, but it's coming up soon. Without spoiling too much, Aranya is flirting with a Very Drugged Up and half-asleep Maitimo, knowing he'll remember nothing of the interaction later.

And... if you know, you know. 😬

This is a character you'll meet soon in IC&SF. His name is Tecno and he's the Nice Guy of Elves. He's not exactly Aranya's favorite person. I'm very pleased with this because it is exactly how I imagine Tecno. I tried to draw him in such a way that he looks a bit off-putting and unsettling, though I tried not to make him obviously bad looking. He actually has some features the Elves like, such as big eyes and fine facial structure, but the proportions are a little exaggerated. But as you'll read when he appears in the fic, his behavior and mannerisms are the main reason for Aranya's dislike of him.

But in all fairness to Aranya, she's not blind, and I can hardly blame her for preferring Maitimo. 👀

Lastly... Aranya's like, I'm too sober for this. 😑

I struggled a lot with Tecno's face here, and it didn't come out nearly as good as the straight on angle. Still, I think you can figure out the vibe of what's going on!

I think my favorite might be the first one, it's really elegant! I also have a tendency to draw clothing from Valinor with a more ancient, Grecian look to it. It seems to fit the heavenly/holy place better then more grounded medieval clothing.

And of course I love the very frustrated Aranya in the last drawing, you can really see how done she is 🤣. I think Tenco's face in this one is great too, it definitely looks like the same person as the other drawing of him--I recognized the character right away.
