I'm sorry if I've opened a similar topic before. But I'm curious about your views on this subject. Please contribute by voting and giving your opinion. Like in bfme 2, did glorfindel fight in the lothlorien attacks and fall of dol guldur during the war of the ring?
Hmm... Intriguing topic indeed. I will have to relook over some of the research and essays I have done on that topic-- hope to discuss further once I have!

I don't recall any evidence that he did.

Tolkien notes that his return must have been for the purpose of strengthening Gil-galad and Elrond, (when the growing evil of the intentions of Sauron were perceived by them). For myself, I imagine that he stayed with Elrond at this time.

There is simply no information of Glorfindel's activities between the Council of Elrond and the single mention of him in the chapter "The Steward and the King". In that chapter he rides with "Erestor and all the household of Rivendell", so Elthir is probably right. But there are no details about what he was doing.

If you're thinking Glorfindel was underused, I agree.

As do I, even with the Fellowship. They could have chosen his aid, and I think it would have served well... There is after all, no reason it had to be 9. A tenth would have indeed been a good addition I should feel, particularly with the death of Boromir

As said elsewhere by others, I think Glorfindel might've been too much for a mission of stealth. His presence alone might have attracted unwanted attention. But overall I think we could have learned a bit more of his movements. It's odd that such a mighty elf should be idle (for all we know) during the War of the Ring.

We know very little of the battles fought in the North while the recorders of the time (the Hobbits) were in Gondor. It is very likely that Glorfindel would have had much to keep him occupied between Rivendell and Lothlorien during this time. As there was some time between the end of Sauron and the ride from Rivendell to Minas Tirith, Glorfindell would have no problem rejoining the household of Elrond had he been elsewhere during the war. It would have been nice if more was said about the battles outside of Gondor.

Just an edit to say. If you are trying to walk unseen in the dark, would a large search-light help?

Most certainly not:
"For one to walk unseen in darkness, the ways of one and those that go with him must be concealed. For only in such concealment may Light in the form of Hope come forth only within oneself, yet unseen still by those who know not of their ways, for they are unseen upon the exteriors of visibility." - Vilisse
