Nerdanel sighs. "Yes- if they ever did." She doesn't want to keep on with this mindless argument between her and her husband, but there doesn't seem much of a choice, and since she is having a very hard time getting him to agree with her, and she refuses to agree with him, there seems no way out of the inevitable argument. She only hopes that it stays there. That it doesn't become a fight or a long-term thing. She's not sure she could stand it if it was. There has been too much conflict. In her mind, it needs to end. And very, very soon.
"Of course I saw what they did to him," She notes. "And I don't deny that it was an act of great tragedy, very great. But I still must question whether they fully knew the implications of their actions. Boys will be boys, Feanaro. Do you really think they put that much thought into what would happen to their brother and the fact that he would be gone forever?" At Feanor's following words, however, her face pales in horror. "You..." She mutters. "Are you saying that I don't know my own sons!?" She shakes her head, and pushes him away as he holds onto her. "Don't my love me after saying such a thing... Listen to yourself? Do you really think our sons are beyond redemption? Are you really willing to accept that readily and give up hoping for them?"
She is aware that Feanor says some things following that, but gives them little thought. In her mind, what he has said is incredibly disrespectful. As a mother, she has the duty and responsibility of knowing her children and having their hearts. The fact that he would mention such a thing is basically telling her that she is a poor mother, and hasn't done a good job, or even a satisfactory job, at raising her children. And a small prickling doubt rises inside of her.
Have I not been a good enough mother?
She swallows, shoving that thought deep, deep down inside. She can't bear the pain of facing it. The pain of being... wrong. It's not something she can reckon with. But even though she has tucked it away, the reminiscing feelings are enough to cause her to ask Feanor the question.
"Feanor, surely you are not saying that I have been a bad mother, are you?"
His response will determine everything.
Amrod's eyes light up, a little. "Wait- so will he be done soon? I want- I want to see him." At least once he gets the chance to speak with Maitimo, he can fix this mess to some degree. Of course, it will still be ruined, and it will still be his fault, but maybe, just maybe, he can do one nice thing forhis brother. Nothing extraordinary, nothing worthwhile, but just one thing, one thing to make his life better.

Fingon sighs, placing a hand on Maitimo's shoulder. "Nay, brother... You don't need to be sorry. It's just- it's father's standard for me, and if that's what he wants, who am I to deny that from him? I... I'll just have to find a way. A way to, to live up to what he wants from me..." He's thinking aloud. "I have to. I mean, the- my whole family, their lives, their happiness depends on it." He glances up at Maitimo. "I've failed at it my whole life. I just- I have got to get better at this... Maybe if I could just, try harder... be stronger, fight longer, endure it even when I don't want to, even when I don't feel like I can..." He sighs. "I just- maybe then I'd be enough for him." Tears crest around the corners of his eyes, but he tries not to let them. "Maybe then, I could satisfy everything that he has wanted from me- and I could be enough- for you, and for him and my family..."
His gaze drops. Now that he has considered it, it's clear. He's already failed so many times. He has to find a way to succeed, to be perfect, to be everything that his father wants. It's not just a want. It's a need. Everything depends on him. And he wants to crumble under the pressure, but he can't. His entire family's livelihood rests on his shoulders. He has to make things right with father, fix everything, and never make another mistake in his life. There's no other way.
Finwe casts an arm around Maitimo, looking down at him. "Are you alright, son?" He whispers. "I'm sorry... It's not that I don't want to help you. I do, I do want to help. But this is between Fingon and his father. Maybe it's better that I- don't get involved. Maybe it's better that he does this on his own." His eyes soften at Maitimo. "All on his own."
Findekano isn't sure what to say to Maitimo's kind offer. On one hand, he's not sure it's a good choice. Dragging poor Maitimo into this after everything feels just mean and wrong. But on the other, he's not really dragging him at all. Maitimo willingly is choosing this. So how can he be blamed for his friend wanting to help? But still, he thinks back to Maitimo's words to Finwe, and his heart drops with dread. If father got physical, what if he beat Maitimo too? His eyes darken and widen with horror, and he hopes Maitimo doesn't notice it. If father came after Maitimo because of Fingon, he knows he'd never NEVER forgive himself for it.
"I don't know..." He mutters, trying to reason with his friend. "What if he came after you- what if he hurt you, and on my account?" He hugs Maitimo close, gently. "I'm sorry, I just don't think I can put this on you. I'm supposed to be your friend. I know that I look more like I'm just using you- but I swear, I'm not. I do care about you. I just... I'm really bad at showing it, apparently."
He feels that sinking feeling returning. Failure. How he's clearly failed his whole life. If perfection is the standard, Fingon has earned nothing but failure after failure upon failure. He's never achieved what his father wants him to, and it causes his heart to all but break, knowing that.

Maglor shakes his head. "Ai... the composer... A beautiful name it is, is it not? How we have the power to create... How we have the power to bring something to life that never was before. And yet, we try to imitate our fathers, the blessed ones before us, to be present in every corner of our work, but invisible from it entirely."
He takes Feanoriel's hand. "But indeed, I mean something different. I mean- do you need to speak about anything in private, before we join the others once more? We will be leaving soon, you must surely know."
