The blissful light of Stars
From hands of Varda granted...
Dark hair flowing,
Naming each Star with love...
Unfurl your cloak of night,
Let us gaze in rapture on your beauty!
The shadow of night covers your hair
The kiss of stars within each eye!
Your stars, a guide for travellers
Your light shining upon their way
The dust of angels floating
On your blanket of sweet light...
Your grace conveyed in the beauty
Of an endless, starlit night
In love and grace your face doth shine
Upon each weary passer-by...
When gracefully you wend upon
The dewy grass of starlit field...
We lift our eyes in wonder,
Our hearts are filled with praise...
We bow our heads before your beauteous face,
Yet even our downcast eyes are dazzled.
Elbereth, let us ever sing your praises,
Lift our voices to your gracious light!
Never may your starlight dim!
May all your days be glory filled...
With elegance and beauty she walked the land
Fashioning lights with graceful hands
To let us sigh now in the light
Of bitterness so sweet, so far...
For we who dwell beyond the sea,
In dancing shadows under stars...
The rays of glimmering light that you have bestowed,
We praise you Elbereth, and bless your name!
For the beauty of the violent ballet of afar
The stars granting us its glorified magnificence
The wonderous stars set in the heavens
Reflect your love and beauty for all to see.
When sorrow and grief weigh us down,
With the last glimpse to catch a ray of your star…
One glimpse of your gift
Lifts the heaviest heart.
That touch of beauty
Drives all sorrow from the soul.
When we see these lovely, shimmering lights,
It fills us with wonder, gratitude and peace.
How beautiful they are,
This precious gift!
Your grace and loveliness shines out
In each star you placed in the sky.
The stars sing your praises,
And we join in as we gaze upon them.
Roaming in the darkness of the world,
Ever have we wished to meet your light,
Ever will we wish to see the beauty
Of your face, brightly shining in our love.
The beauty of your soul shines forth
When we gaze upon the night sky,
And see the jewels you lovingly crafted
With silvery dew from Telperion.
The light you wove for only us
It delights our eyes and fills our hearts
How gracious are you, O Starkindler!
To send us beauty like to your face!
Silent like the night you move,
But bright in heart and soul!
What gifts of light our eyes behold,
When raised to gaze at heaven's heights!
In the Shadowy Lands east of the Sea,
O Starkindler, we sing to thee!
For in the skies, we see the stars
Shining as clear and beautiful as your eyes!
Your beauty shines bright
Like your stars on a cloudless night!
O Starkindler!
Let your stars be our light!
O Elbereth! So fair art thou!
Whether you are fairer than the stars you kindled
Or that they show more beauty
No Child of Ilúvatar can tell.
To walk through the darkness, you are the light to me
The Creator of the stars that was in Ever-eve
If shadow leaves me low, up to you I look and cry,
Deliver me from darkness!
When the stars were young, and the world was fair
You called to us to come
For if one knows not what light is
Only they cannot tell the darkness.
The first of things that I have seen to cry to you
O Starkindler! Deliver me from darkness!
For the world was fair, and you were in it
So high, so high above me.
Graceful hands waft through the night,
And in their wake, silent sparkles shine...
Like jewels in the night
Their light fills the dark voids so far away..
Yet so near to my heart
Heavenly chips of silver fire
Giving peace and comfort
To my weary soul.
It shines within my eyes
Lighting my spirit with hope
Like a rainbow after a storm.
A Silvery trail of beauty lies,
Upon the darkened skies.
Their guiding light true and strong,
Never fading from the mind's light.
A restful journey of beauty bright.
The beginning and never an end,
Of her jewelled love for all kind.
Her silvery arms stretched out to all,
A glimmering hope of love divine.
The light shines down upon
The Eldar with pouring love,
Fires kindled in the mountains
Upon the peaks of Taniquetil.
Her twinkling lights
Are like music to the eye.
In this dark land so fell and cold
My weary eyes look to the sky,
And view what fills this heavy heart
With hope of light beyond the sea.
Through mist and cloud, still shine the stars
In endless circles whirling
I lift my heart and join the dance
Until the darkness fades away.
For though I live in shadow
And though I live in fear
There is hope beyond the darkness
And beauty beyond tears.
O Elbereth! Your light does shine
Down upon the world of darkness,
Easing my troubled heart!
To you I look,
Your stars a guide
To light my path before my feet,
Though it should lead
Through the darkest threats
I look to thee, O Elbereth!
Ai! Elbereth!
When the clouds
Do cover up your shining stars,
Let them shine brighter in the dark
To light us on our way!
O luminous stars in the endless sky!
Carry my voice, my prayer high!
O mystical Light of the radiant moon!
Spread your wings and set me free!
O Elbereth! You shine brighter than the stars you made,
I can see them through the darkness, through the mist!
I shall have courage, I shall not be afraid,
I shall fight the evil, the blank, the crooked, the hissed!
Oh, your cloak of radiance pure!
Your hair like pale silk, like mithril of the sky!
Your eyes indescribable, the beauty of their hue!
Your voice we hear in the echo in the night,
When the stars shine brightest and reflect your might!
O with the light we can see! You give us hope! O under the light we were born!
O under the light we shall be, and all pain, and all death, to eternity adjourn!
