🐴 The Lord of the Rings: The ⚔️War of the Rohirrim

Do you have a source for this?
I should not speak for Vorondil, but it is found in Bosworth-Toller's Anglo Saxon dictionary as:

héra (n.) an; m.

One who obeys another ⬩ a servant ⬩ follower

Entry preview:

One who obeys another, a servant, follower Héra ł embehtmonn minister, Mk. Skt. Lind. 10, 43. Héra ł þegn minister, Jn. Skt. Lind. 12, 26. Héro ministros, Rtl. 11, 35.

It is also noted in the Online "Old English Translator: https://www.oldenglishtranslator.co.uk/ with the same definition.

Many thanks, also for the useful link.

However, it is noticeable there that héra is consistently referred to as a "masculine noun". In this respect, it would again be inappropriate for a female character.

And if I had to make a guess, I would say that the character will be anything but an obedient vassal, but rather an independent, perhaps even rebellious woman with a strong will of her own. Similar to Eowyn in a positive sense.

I just wonder whether the makers of the movie are concerned about the language and are trying to get close to Tolkien in that respect, or whether they don't really care, as with Amazon's Rings of Power.
(I'm pretty optimistic though that it will be higher quality than the series and closer to Tolkien, whether that name is appropriate or stupid....)

What are you doing putting this into a discussion of some word or words? Are you trying to derail the discussion of The War of the Rohirrim back on its rails??? 🤣

It's a good thing that Tolkien never bothered with the details of words. Very few people here know that. Experts like Shippey would certainly confirm this.

We at Shire Post Mint are rolling out a licensed piece to go along with the show. I took this pic of a small pile on the workbench about to head to packaging. They're brass and about the size of a half-dollar. In keeping with the aesthetic of Rohan, the obverse features a wild running horse on an unbounded field. The reverse is of course the hammer and hand, symbol of Helm. While the Rohirrim are not known to be mining folk, they did inherit a large plunder from the Hoard of Scatha, and therefore are not in dearth of metal for such purposes.

Feels way too anime. But i will see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie which looks solid.

But i mean, in the sense that LOTR. Atleat Rohan part is to me all about CHAD energy.
I just cant be bothered if there is a giant fighting monster slicing or whatever.
I dunno? How you feeling about it?

And while i do love Bleach anime. I also feel it would carry some trophes, with how Monty Python jokes about
(Getting stabbed which usually is a big deal. but in anime, nah just a scratch hah)

I'm probably not going to watch it either, not so much because it's anime, I just don't like the fact that it veers away from the LOTR appendices (judging by the second half of the trailer). Not too excited about the watcher in the water and the oiliphant that somehow made it's way northwest either. The main character seemed generic, too.

I mean, I understand why some people might feel like that, so as not to "ruin it" for them, but you never really know until you try. There's no guarantee that I will particularly like the film, but I'm going to at least give it a go to see what I think, so that I can analyze both the good as well as the bad, and not just focus on what other people say about it.

I think the worst that could happen isn't so much veering away from the books, but veering away from it in a way that does not benefit the story. If they make some good decisions that aren't word-for-word in the books, I'll be fine with it. But if they make crappy changes, on the the other hand, it is a possibility that it could go south.

Okay, the actual worse thing that could happen is STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER syndrome. And I don't mean female characters who exhibit strong qualities, like Eowyn in LotR or Natasha Romanoff from MCU. I mean people like the annoying Karenladriel from RoP.
