Trivia Thread!

[Olorgando]

Who knew..! (Excpet maybe sir Aethelwulf of course. Or everybody else and I'm just slow.)

When pos(t)ing as Treebeard, of course you were not hasty. Quickbeam was quite another matter.
But as to Huorns being slow ... unfortunately no Orcs attacking Helm's Deep survived, who would have been able to give first-Orc accounts on the matter ... 🤔

Did you know that a battle was fought in Alaska during World War 2?

One of my uncles was in the US Coast Guard in the Aleutians during WWII. We've been trying to get hold of his service record.

Isaac Asimov is the only author to write a book in every Dewey decimal category.

Dewey decimal category.

The what?

[Eljorahir]

The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), colloquially known as the Dewey Decimal System, is a proprietary library classification system which allows new books to be added to a library in their appropriate location based on subject. It was first published in the United States by Melvil Dewey in 1876.

Somebody give Ejorahir an achievement badge!

(Hey, I'm a former Cub Scout too! 😉)

The Puma (Cougar, Mountain Lion, ...) is classified as the largest of the "small cats" or subfamily Felinae of the family Felidae.
The Felinae are thus classified for anatomical reasons, as none of them are able to roar, in contrast to the other, much smaller (in the number of its members) sub-family Pantherinae - except for the Snow Leopard, whose "vocal fold" is too short to enable it to roar.
"Small cat" may be a classification that puzzles, as it is the fourth largest of the existing Felidae, with a lot of overlap with the third largest, the Jaguar, and the fifth largest, the Leopard, both classified as "large cats" (and never mind the two species (?) of the Clouded Leopard, which are much smaller).

Which brings me to Tevildo. At the end of one of the early variants of "Beren & Lúthien", Tevildo's "subjects" revert to normal house cat size. Does JRRT ever describe Tevildo as roaring? 🤔

Interesting... but not surprising. He was a super polymath.
So where did you come across that bit of trivia?

So where did you come across that bit of trivia?

It was a random books website. But apparently it was 9/10, he didn’t have a book in Philosophy.

Deimos is the smaller and outermost of the two natural satellites of Mars, the other being Phobos. Deimos has a mean radius of 6.2 km (3.9 mi) and takes 30.3 hours to orbit Mars. Deimos is 23,460 km (14,580 mi) from Mars, much farther than Mars' other moon, Phobos. It is named after Deimos, the Ancient Greek god and personification of dread and terror.

Well you certainly ''look foul'', but I'm not sure about the ''feeling fair'' part.

[Deimos]

But occasionally I go all-out and put on my Sunday best ... and then it's kind of difficult to miss me.🙂

That's quite a cool artwork.

Obviously not mine.... no name was given for the artist, but I found it on a gaming site.

Don't you know anything about lying? Nobody knew it wasn't yours. (I sound like the serpent in the Garden of Eden! Yuck!)
