What about Gwindor?

I just finished reading the Quenta in The Shaping of Middle Earth last night and I feel quite sorry for the poor chap. I mean I felt sorry for him before but it hadn't occurred to me that he was the involuntary cause of the ruin of the kingdoms of the Noldor in Middle Earth. And when he escapes from the mines of Morgoth look who he happens to meet and what he gets involved with. Not to mention losing the love of his life and his demise... It's too depressing to continue. What luck, huh?

I feel bad for him as well. I had a few discussions with some other members in the past and there are different views on Gwindor. Some people really don't like him. But imagine your brother? Who can say how any of them would have reacted if it had been their brother?

And it is just terrible about Finduilas. One would have thought she would love him a thousand times as much after all he endured and after his return beyond hope would have never let him beyond her sight. She isn't among my favourite elves because I can't understand her for that. Seems like she was faithless without need, and too fickle in giving her love.

I have really wondered how much Morgoth had to do with it all. Was Gwindor one of the escaped thralls who went out to do Morgoth's will... maybe these were unaware of their effects? And of course the curse of Turin was mixed into it all... they were pretty much doomed I guess. A sad tale for all three of them.

After reading The Silmarillion again I feel sorry for everyone that was involved with Turin, but not so much for Turin himself, at least when he got older. I mean things could've been so much better if he would've stayed in Menongroth and explained himself instead of running off and going on a rampage. Ah well, if that had been the case a great story wouldn't have been written.
