What are you watching?

Just watched Clerks for the first time last night. Certainly fun, and had some great dialogue, but I think I've heard the movie by hyped up amongst my friends for too many years and was slightly underwhelmed. Perhaps it's one of those movies that get better and better with subsequent viewing.

Binge watched the Potter series again, (from the main books, not the extended works), along with my re-reading of the books.

Though the differences are significant, I still like both the books and the movies... particularly the scenery, settings, costuming etc. (as I do with the LoTR and Hobbit ones.)

Still working to pull the character development into a more complete view in both.

One of my favorite indie films. I think it definitely grows on you if you watch it again. I think it’s also just praised because for the low budget that it had, it was a decent movie. And he basically wrote and directed it all himself on his own dime.

Clerks 2 is higher budget, was hilarious to me but definitely is (to me) insane on the risqué level. It also has an LOTR reference that I can’t post here 😬

Gotcha, I will have to check out the movie again and more of the Kevin Smith movies.

You can always PM me the reference lol

I've never seen Clerks. I may have a copy around here somewhere; I'll have to look for it.

I did see Slackers, which Kevin Smith said inspired him to make his own movie, and which like his, was made on a shoestring. I found it hilarious, and recognized certain "characters" from my own experience. Here's a favorite short -- but typical -- exchange:

The whole thing's on YouTube, for anyone interested in comparisons:

Well, last night I completed the last of my binge watching of the Harry Potter films based on the original 7 books.
As usual, the character development lags those of the books of course.
Returning now to the books to further the comparisons and do some writing on a few key characters.
(Naturally, they won't appear here, not being Tolkien. Not sure what I'll do with them yet, but it's gonna be fun.)

Mean Streets was excellent, very suspenseful. De Niro's character and the choices he continued to make were very stressful to watch, especially as it pulls Harvey Keitel ever further down onto an unwinnable path. The type of movie that only gets worse for the characters, never better.

Tuesday again, so movie night with my brother. Tonight we are watching Whiplash with J.K. Simmons (I love J.K.), so should be a good one!

Also, I've been going through the entire Jack**s series and their subsequent films on Prime. Very silly, enjoyable, and often disgusting, but an easy show to binge through.

I admit I didn't see kids shows much in the 70s, but I don't remember this one at all:
Anyone here watch it? Looks kind of out there.

Anyone here watch it?
I too have no memory of this whatsoever. Of course, for most of the 70s I was off in the military doing the sorts of things military folk do. Television was hardly the favored way to spend time, especially for youthful fools set loose on the world to do foolish youthful type things.

That explains it, and the weirdness* -- plus, I'd have been even less likely to have watched a 90s kids show! 😄

* The real one looks kinda weird too, though!
And the theme song sounds more 70s than 90s. 🤔

The real series was a cartoon from the 90s, based on some books.
Now that series I do have a vague recall of deep in the heartwood somewhere.

The entings were still in their later 'children's show' years... (we were late in producing our saplings)... and though it wasn't their standard fare, they did land on it briefly from time to time.

I loved Magic School Bus as a kid. And yeah the second I saw that "live-action" video I thought it could be AI generated.

In other news, I watched the movie Whiplash with my brother last night. Very intense, and J.K. Simmons was really amazing in it. The music was all around great too.
