A village portrayed in Tolkienās āThe Lord of The Ringsā, Hobbiton was located in the central areas of the Shire.
Description
Hobbiton was situated in the eastern part of the Westfarthing. It was located on the two sides of the Water and a mile away from another village called Bywater. Hobbits dwelled in this village, and there were buildings made of stone, wood, or brick. Hobbits like Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, and Bilbo Baggins also lived here. Some of the most significant spots in Hobbiton were the Bagginās Hobbit-Hole, the Bag End, and the Mill. On the west side of the lane running from the bridge to the Hobbiton Hill was the Old Grange. The Hill lay facing the village and another village called Underhill. The Bag End, the ancestral monument of the Baggins Family, was situated on the Hill. The village also had its own post-office.
History
In the year 2941 of the Third Age, Bungo Baggins had constructed the Bag End in the Hill. Bilbo had held a party at this place in 3001 to celebrate his 111th and Frodoās 33rd anniversaries. Hobbiton was completely destroyed during the War of the Ring. Lotho Sackville-Baggins had taken over, and strange Men started coming to Hobbiton as Lotho invited. After the Scouring of the Shire, the mill was removed, and Bag End was reconstructed. Samwise Gamgee had used the gift of earth from Galadriel to restore Hobbiton and neighboring villages. It turned into a beautiful and peaceful village once again. [1]
Adaptations
In āThe Lord of the Ringsā movie series, Hobbiton was filmed on the Alexander Farm situated in New Zealand. The set was built from the ground-up by installing greenery and other elements. About thirty Hobbit-holes had been built for the purpose of the movie. The Hobbiton can be visited in New Zealand, and visitors can see locations like The Mill, The Green Dragon Inn, and the Hobbit Holes. [2]
