Khamûl

Khamûl was among the nine Ringwraiths next in command to the Witch-king after Arnor was vanquished in Middle-earth. He retained Dol Guldur as a lieutenant for Sauron during the third century. He became the Lord of Nazgûl for a short time after the Witch-king was killed.

Previously, Khamûl was a dangerous man ruling the eastern lands of the Rhûn. He later used one of the Dark Lord Sauron's nine Rings of Power, and in due course, he was compromised and became one of Sauron’s slaves. He initially appeared in SA 2251, as one of the Nazgûls.

Sauron returned to his Mordor reign in 2951 of the Third Age and sent Khamul and other Nazgul to his Dol Guldur fort in Mirkwood. Dol Guldur was occupied for some time by Khamul and several other Nazgul, and they left a spell over the forest. Aragorn seized Gollum in March 3018 and took him to the Elvenking Chamber, in Mirkwood, where he was imprisoned. This was known to Khamul and his Informants, and they told Lord Sauron about it. The Wood-elf, who held Gollum prisoner, was attacked by Orcs on 20 June. During the uproar, Gollum fled. Also at that time, the Witch-King started to search for the One Ring and land called Shire where he thought the One Ring had been. Khamul and the Witch-King met in Celebrant’s Area, and Khamul reported the escape from Gollum. Khamul had looked for more Hobbits in the Anduin valleys in the month after Gollum’s escape but found none. Hobbits are believed to have the one ring by the enemy, and they are said to live in a country called the shire, so that’s why the enemy looks for Shire and Hobbits so vehemently. For several months, the Nazgul continued their search for the ring, until they were in Isengard, and from there to Eríador.

Khamûl was the Wraith who, just before Frodo Baggins left Hobbiton, followed the Hobbits to Bucklebury ferry in the Shire and asked Farmer Maggot for "Baggins." Khamûl also fought with the other Nazgûl in the Battle of the Pelennor Plains, seated on his Fellbeast, and killed Gondor's soldiers at the start of the war. After the Witch-king death, he fled to Mordor, along with the other seven lesser Nazgûl. Khamûl later became Nazgûl's King. Before being attacked by the Eagles, he led them to the Battle of the Black Gate riding his Fell beast. The Nazgûl withdrew when they learned that Frodo was declaring the Ring for himself. They fled towards Mount Doom. He fell from the flames of the eruption

Khamûl was known as the East Shadow, [1] the Second Chief, and the Black Easterling. He was the first Ringwraith named by J.R.R. Tolkien and among the six Numenorean Ringwraiths.

In a short film adaptation by Peter Jackson of the Lord of the Rings, [2] Khamûl spoke to Farmer Maggot, who led him to Hobbiton. Farmer Maggot previously evaded the Hobbit, but Frodo senses his presence and tells his friends to move away. The Hobbits, hiding behind a tree, shrank and identified their scent as Khamul approached. Merry tosses a bag of vegetables behind the Rider's horse while the four stay silent. Consequently, her actions alarm Khamul, leaving the Hobbits completely unnoticed.

When he returned, the Ring had been devastated, and the remaining seven Ring Wraiths destroyed alongside Khamûl. The Witch-King succumbed earlier in the Battle of Pelennor Fields during Mount Doom's eruption. Khamul's portrayal, as seen in the Hobbit movies In the films The Hobbit, the nine Ringwraiths were buried in a Rhudaur's High Fells but appeared in the invitation by Sauron. Khamûl and the other eight Ringwraiths engaged in combat with the White Council, in The Hobbit: the war of the five armies, [3] with Khamûl carrying Easterling gear.

While not named in the game, Khamûl was mentioned as the lieutenant of Dol Guldur in The Lord of the Rings Game. He commanded Sauron armies in Mirkwood and, together with his fell beast, was the ultimate leader of the 12-person Barad Guldur attack. Formerly known as the Cursed Rider, he became one of the 9 Nazgûls and obtained one of the nine rings of power created for men in Orôm (Warmonger). He had been an Easter King, but his name has been lost in time, and his several nicknames recognize him. In The Battle for Middle Earth II of Electronic Arts: The Rise of the Witch-king, Khamûl is one of two Mordor faction heroes, who travel on fell beasts

He's Khamul the Easterling in the Middle Earth Role Playing Game. Komul I was born in Khamul the Easterling in S.A. 1744 in the east of Endor at Laeg Goak. He was Mul Tanul of the Womaw's eldest son of Hionvor. Dardarian, Lord's elven consort, who served as his chief counselor until his elevation to the S.A. throne, raised him. 1844. The influence of Dardarian over King Womawas Drus warped his worldview and made him eager for the gift of immortality. Although he wielded Elven's ancestry, it merely extended life for those of his bloodline instead of continuing it forever. For his support of the Numenorean ambassadors, he found his own rule losing prominence among his people. Since the Dunedain formed commercial ties with the Womaw in S.A. 900. The influence of Westernesse Men had risen dramatically grew to significantly affect the communities of the southern holdings of Womawas Drus.

They constructed several fortified territories and pressured several concessions diplomatically on the portion of Komul I kingdom. By .A. 1 994, with most of the Womaw lords renouncing their allegiance to the KingKing, the internal unity of Hionvor's rule crumbled. Komul became a man in despair. He turned to the only friend he knew, Dardarian, who fell around him with his whole kingdom. He met his step master at Sunrises island, where he was seduced by beauty, charm, and the attractive offer of immortality. He accepted her offer and allying Dararian's A var Reign of Helkanen and the Womawas Dru. Komul was proud, desperate, and had a deep desire for immorality.

The Alliance allowed Komul to ask the Numenoreans for concessions the following year and to subvert any thoughts about the invasion of Dunadan. The agreement with Dardarian had many advantages since it ensured the Womaw Kingdom did not collapse. Sadly, that would spell their Hio's downfall Dardarian represented Mordor's Sauron and was entrusted with the responsibility to corrupt Komul. In S.A. 1 996, She provided the element that would confer immortality upon the Womaw KingKing. He acknowledged one of the Nine Power Rings [4] and fell under the Lord of the Rings sway. His control over the East Kingdom came to a sudden end. Komul vanished early on in S.A's spring. 1997, having remained virtually isolated from anyone else.

Apparent lack of involvement from the Hionvor ignited a gruesome succession battle for the throne of Komul. The Womaw's once-prosperous court got marred by assassinations, espionage, and conspiracy when he learned that retaining his power in the kingdom is futile, he relinquished his throne with his cousin Aon to the head of a Numenorean backed group. Nobody knew the true reasons behind Komul's abdication, but undoubtedly the dynasty was rescued from the iron jaws of Sauron. Komul could only swear his former court with an oath of revenge. Komul’s whereabouts in S.A. 1997-2000 are still unclear, but he appears in Dark Tower, S.A. 2000. His title was Khamul because it was pronounced this way in the Black Tongue.

The stewardship of Barad-dur was entrusted to him until Ar-Pharazon pushed him out, and he moved east and corrupted many communities. He retreated to Mordor, staying at Nurn during the War of the Ring, but only participated when he and his master came out to fight against the elve host in the collapse of the Dark Tower in 3441. After Isildur cut Sauron's RingRing, he knocked many but vanished into Shadow. He stayed at Shadow until he joined Dol Goldur's Lord in 1050. After spending some time in the South-East, he fought for the controls over the area from corrupt Blue Wizards, but he never succeeded.

In the 1600s, he was back in Dol Guldur in Sauron, where he stayed until the Watch of Mordor fell. He was sent to Mordor to prepare Mas with seven lesser Nazghul He returned to his native country in 2063 to fulfill his millennial pledge and claimed it for the Shadow. Then, like his Lord, he returned to Mordor. He traveled between Mordor and Dol Guldur for some time. He captured Thrain II on one of these occasions, detained him in Dol Guldur, seized the RingRing of power from the dwarf, and brutalized him. He never received any information, and Thrain fled to give Erebor the key to Gandalf.

Sauron reprimanded him for failure, but he was still one of Sauron's four most influential servants. During the White Council attack in 2941, Khamul ran away with Sauron, traveling to Mordor. Later, Khamul would go back to Dol Gondor and lead the troops in an attack on the northerners. When he returned to Mount Doom, he would fall later, but he died when the RingRing was ruined. Khamûl is of the kings of the Avaradan (Half-Elves), descended from the Elves of Abar, and the Womaw (the same line as the Numenor Edain).

In earlier versions of the stories, Khamûl was stationed in Dol Guldur on March 6. He revealed himself to Sauron on March 10 and started marching on the Woods. His forces began targeting the neighboring Lórien on March 11. Before that, much of his power went across the forest border and fell into the Rohan Wold. They were met and routed by Ents, who had been sent east from Fangorn and Isengard on March 12. On March 15 and March 22, Lórien was then targeted twice, but there was no entry. Dol Guldur's troops also went north into Mirkwood, fighting King Thranduil's armies under Mirkwood's trees, the peak of those battles being on March 15, 3019 which was won by Thranduil's forces after a long war and great devastation.

The only Nazgul whose real name is known is Khamûl.
