Knights of Dol Amroth

The Knights of Dol Amroth as portrayed in Tolkien’s ‘The Lord of the Rings were a group of soldiers serving Prince Imrahil in the Third Age in Middle Earth. They were also called ‘Swan Knights’.

History

Prince Imrahil was the twenty-second prince of Dol Amroth. He led a team of knights and a force of 700 men to Minas Tirith during the War of the Ring to defend his city. It was on March 9, 3019 that these Knights of Dol Amroth proceeded towards Minas Tirith. The Prince led the troops that rode to help Faramir. When Sauron’s armies crossed the Pelennor Fields, the knights supported the rear-guard who were withdrawing from Osgiliath. Thereafter, the Swan Knights proceeded towards the support of the Rohirrim and fought bravely until Aragorn came to rescue.

Adaptations

The well-known strategy game ‘The Lord of the Rings – The Battle of Middle Earth’ [1] portrays the Knights of Dol Amroth in ‘The Rise of the Witch-king part. They appear as a ‘hero-horde’ unit available to the Men of the West. They need to be summoned in Level 3 as they are more elite than the Rohirrim. These riders have characteristics similar to monsters as they can knock down trees as they ride.
