What 📔book are you reading right now?

I loved it, I hope you find it to read soon. I've just been starting with his books within the last few years so have a lot to try yet. I even tried the stand via audiobook and it was impossible to stay focused, it just wasn't good to me lol. I know a ton of people who say it's amazing though.

I started with Salems Lot, and read first 200 pages...
So much better than Pet Sematary, much like Needful Things...
I'm enjoying...

I'm now reading Sabotage, its about the I.S.R.D in who were the chaps who made all the special equipment for the British agents, and French Resistance. They made everything from exploding rats to fake fish for hiding Sten guns in.

He, like a lot of writers of his generation and earlier, started out getting paid by the word for magazine stories. Some grow out of it, some don't.

I have a slight inkling of what you're talking about but I'd still like to ask what you mean by magazine story (google's not helping me out).

If you don't want to wade through the book, there's the 1994 miniseries:

I haven't seen the new one, but concensus is it's far inferior.

That's a big understatement. I don't say it often, because it's always a matter of taste but it's objectively, utterly, trash.
Not (m)any redeeming aspects at all, Skarsgard as RF was cool, in the same way Matthew McConaughey was a cool RF.
Soundtrack's also pretty okay.

Mine just happens to incorporate my opinions of changes needed due to Marky and accommodating his particular abilities. (I find him, like Tom Cruise, not to have a very broad range.)

You should most def try some of his earlier features a try, I feel Marky, like Tom Cruise has very much stagnated into mostly doing the same type of content and characters later on in their careers and thus giving off that impression.
So if you haven't I would recommend;
- Fear
- Traveller
- Boogie Nights (this one really came out of left field especially when you look into how religious of a person he is, which btw makes Father Stu an even better movie if you're into that type of stuff)
- Rock Star (the wig alone sets it apart)
Which range from good to good fun (don't really know how to categorize these for you Ent)
If you can find the time and willingness to give these a try I think they can, ever so slightly, change your view of the main Wahlberger himself.

Hmm it seems I missed most of the Stephen King discussion, what a shame.
I finished The Drawing of the Three today, the second book in his Dark Tower series.
For what's supposed to be his magnum opus it certainly hasn't started very well for me.
I didn't like the The Gunslinger (first book) at all, maybe just one or two noteworthy convos/happenings that really got me invested.
Granted, Mr King did have a very lengthy introduction on how, when and why he wrote the books, I can't excuse it just being very uninteresting.
I haven't ever been invested in his inspirations, nor do I think I can rate it all yet after only having read two out of seven main books.
And yet, I think I'll just call it quits here.
Whilst the second book has been very entertaining actually and has managed to get me to be very invested it sadly hasn't been enough.

Ah, @CheriptheRipper - (still my favorite handle) - Ent could never get into Stephen King. Ent may consider stepping back to Wahlburger’s earlier stuff…but for Ent, an actor is not measured by what he did before, but rather what he continues to do and whether he grows, Sadly, neither of those two did. Cruise never had anything good…though in a confession, Ent almost thought he saw a skill in “A Few Good Men”, but it was short-lived. Now, both are just riding on borrowed time. Fortunately, as Wahlburg produces and directs movies, he keeps himself out of them as an actor. Cruise is too egotistical to be that smart.

All that said, this being the ‘What Book Are You Reading” thread rather than “Actors” or ‘Movies”, Ent has finished Hunter’s Master Sniper, and is moving on to our own @1stvermont’s The Road Goes Ever On and On. Very much looking forward to his take on Tolkien and his work/works.

King's got a very big bibliography so I should probably go for a bigger sample size but it's currently looking to be the same.
I do actually enjoy most of the adaptations of his work oddly enough.

And that's a very admirable stance, I hope either one, or both manage to positively surprise you some day my dear Ent.

I saw you mention that in 1stvermont's thread, very respectable of you to want to support a member (I'm not saying you're not genuinely interested in what he wrote up).
I know I am as well but I'd like to hear your thoughts on it before I might.

Did the same...'where to start'. Picked up a few. Started reading... Sanderson writes well... then Ent got seriously side-tracked by the origination of this planet, then construction of this universe, then what Gravity really is and how it really works. Still working on that...had to lay in a small library to help..!

SeS pointed out Stephen Hunter next. Got and read his first book - his writing is surprisingly good. Crisp. Clear. Intriguingly put together at spots. His first book almost completely avoided the "unnecessary 'that'" and "meaningless 'do'" - two things tending to drive Ent crazy. Have the next 3 ready to go once done with 1stvermont's work. (Really enjoying that..!)

Need to get back to Sanderson too...finish that first work, then interweave Sanderson and Hunter together for Ent's 'just to read it' stuff.

TTF is a dangerous place, for the 'shopper of informations and enjoyments'.

Who did Vida Winter save from the fire? Was it Adeline or Emmeline? This is a cunning and controversial question which concerns many readers deeply. So it would be interesting to hear your interpretation.

I said I'd read the Mistborn trilogy but instead ended up reading At the Mountain of Madness, the Willows and Fahrenheit 451, courtesy of EA and Deimos.
They were all pretty good.

I thought the first chapter was an absolute borefest (hehe), and quite possibly the worst chapter in existence I've read over the last two years.
But it somehow didn't take away from the remainder of the book which, I have to say really picked up in chapter 2.
Terrific read and I especially liked how it left us wondering as much as it answered our questions.
If you could recommend another piece by Lovecraft, just the one, which would you?

Jeez, that's a tough one. If you're new to the mythos, I'd recommend "The Call of Cthulhu"; it's the basic introduction, although a couple of earlier stories are considered part of it.

But I can't leave out a couple of faves: "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", which, although many think it inferior, as it was an attempt at a "thriller" and contains quite a bit of dialog, at which HPL was less than adept, I enjoyed. Maybe you will too. It was loosely "adapted" by Doctor Strange comics, back in the early 70s, BTW.

The other is "The Haunting of the Dark", another example of his technique of building the horror up slowly, as in MoM, but shorter.

That's the one where he killed off Robert Bloch -- who later returned the "favor".
