Trivia Thread!

Don't you know anything about lying? Nobody knew it wasn't yours. (I sound like the serpent in the Garden of Eden! Yuck!)
O come now. 🙄 Surely no one assumed it was mine from the get-go.
But I think it right to give attribution to an author/artist when possible, but in this case, no name was given:
"... and his name is remembered in no tale; for he himself had forgotten it." 😬

Phobos is slightly larger than Deimos and also closer to Mars, so it travels faster than Deimos.
Also because it is so close to Mars (6000km) gravity is pulling it ever closer, causing it to spiral in.
Eventually it will crash into the planet.

I didn't know that.

I just read a few minutes ago that Deimos is going outward and will eventually escape Mars' gravity.

Where then? I don't know, but maybe a planetary collision is inevitable.

Phobos is spiraling in (sorry, I didn't make that clear).
Deimos could be headed outward; its mass is low enough and the gravitational pull from Mars is much weaker.
But the two moons won't ever collide.

No mistake, I worded my post poorly.

I didn't know Phobos was doomed to crash into Mars until your post, but I'd just read Deimos was heading in the other direction.

FWIW ... our own Moon is slowly spiraling away from Earth...might "escape" in 5 billion years or so.

Reminds me of the story...man and wife are watching a "Science" program on the TV.
The Carl Sagan du jour is talking about the sun going nova and then finally dying in 7-8 billion years.

The husband jumps up and starts pacing exclaiming, "OMG... the sun exploding in 7 Million years! OMG."
And his wife says, "No, no, no... he said 7 billion years."
And the man looks at her for a couple of seconds, calms down and says, "Oh.. whew! OK, that's better." And sits down again.

If you ever thought that ancient rings of powerful kings, couldn't actually be found by commoners in the most unlikely places.

King Æthelwulf's ring was found in a cart rut in Laverstock in Wiltshire in about August 1780 by one William Petty, who sold it to a silversmith in Salisbury. The silversmith sold it to the Earl of Radnor, and the earl's son, William, donated it to the British Museum in 1829.

(I wonder if it made him disappear)

I failed to say that the ring is over one thousand years old. (and yes, it is in fact where I got my username from.)

"True ambidexterity is rare. Approximately 1 percent of the population is ambidextrous. Ambidexterity is also more common in males than females, the 2021 study mentioned earlier suggests."

At last, proof positive more men than women are bad with directions, not knowing whether to go left or right.

I once took a left turn instead of right and kept going for a while until I realized I was lost. My dad and me were looking for each other for nearly 20 minutes until I realized why I'm lost exactly and came back the way I had left. I was not allowed to leave the house alone since then(this happened in our own town.)
