I think my favorite might be the first one, it's really elegant! I also have a tendency to draw clothing from Valinor with a more ancient, Grecian look to it. It seems to fit the heavenly/holy place better then more grounded medieval clothing.

Thanks! That one's probably my favorite too, or at least, it's pretty close with Drugged Up Timo. And yeah, since later time periods of fashion are what I've studied more, I haven't been very comfortable drawing ancient periods, but I've been trying to force myself to branch out, because ancient clothing is a better fit, both historically and aesthetically.

And of course I love the very frustrated Aranya in the last drawing, you can really see how done she is 🤣. I think Tenco's face in this one is great too, it definitely looks like the same person as the other drawing of him--I recognized the character right away.

She is such a mood there. 😂 If you wonder where that facial expression comes from, well, it comes from how I feel very often. Especially when I've dealt with Tecno types in my own life. 😬

I literally laughed out loud at the last one, the facial expressions and poses were fantastic. 😂

I actually thought Maitimo looked like someone from Celtic mythology in the first one. I think it's the combination of clothing and his pose/expression.

From a scene in Ill Chances and Strange Fates, which has not been posted yet, but it's coming up soon. Without spoiling too much, Aranya is flirting with a Very Drugged Up and half-asleep Maitimo, knowing he'll remember nothing of the interaction later.

This one made me pause and go 'hm' 🤔 when I saw it. It looks different than most of your sketches of Maitimo. The pencil lines of the facial features are less sharp, and the hair falls very naturally, with light and shade in the right places. It looks like it could very easily be transformed into a painting with colour. Something about the eyes and the proportion of his facial features definitely makes him look younger: he looks like he's barely an adult.

As for Tecno, I guessed that was him before even reading your description. And he definitely still looks like the same person in the next picture, which is one of the reasons why it made me laugh the moment I saw it, without pausing to figure out what was going on.

Difficult to pick a favourite, as they're all different. Maybe I would have picked the second one, cause I like Maitimo's face, but the one with Tecno and Aranya is too close of a contender because of its humour (which automatically gives it more weight in my mind).

I haven't met any of either in my life. However, I have met a lot of Tyelkos somehow (both male and female), which I am not mad about. Tyelkos are very fun friends.

That would be an even closer fit to the Silm than Greek mythology, so I'll take that!

Interesting, I mean that does work out because in Arc 2, Maitimo has just recently turned 100, so he is barely an adult at that time. But what's interesting is that I wasn't necessarily trying to make him look younger. I was just trying to draw what I saw in my mind.

First Drawing: I think Maitimo definitely looks very formal here, with his appearance, pose, and expression. The hair looks healthy and tightly curled, which I would attribute to Aranya’s Curl Care Routine™️. The clothing, with the sleeveless tunic and cloak, highlights his muscled physique well. I could almost see this as a pose Nerdanel would have him hold while making a statue of him.

Second Drawing: This is really well done, and I agree with Servo; there’s something different about it in the way it turned out. It works well for this moment. I can just picture the scene with him sleepily staring up at Aranya as she’s twirling a strand of his hair around her finger. 👀

Third Drawing: Tecno kind of reminds me of an owl or some other wide-eyed critter. He means well and generally poses no harm, but his friendly stare might prove to be a bit much for some people. Though, I could also see how his face might be a calming presence for patients.

Fourth Drawing: Aranya’s expression is spot-on!! I was cracking up when I first saw it. This moment says it all about how she feels about Tecno. 🤣

Actually I did intend it to have sleeves (our Properly Dressed Maitimo would never bare his arms in public, unlike Tyelko!) But I guess the sleeves came out tighter than I intended (oh well 👀), and without coloring, you would have no idea.

Upon looking at it again, I will say I really appreciate the clothing style in the first one. I don't often see Silmarillion characters dressed in this more Celtic or early medieval style in artwork, so I really liked seeing it here. 🥺

For the past two weeks, to keep my hands busy so my mind could focus on listening to Bible study, I was working on this.

I cannot BELIEVE I haven't drawn Maglor till now, but here we are!

This is inspired by a little RP I've been doing with @J. Magi . I realized towards the end I drew it backwards because Maitimo's right shoulder is supposed to be dislocated, but oh well!

Before I continue, I have to put disclaimers about the imperfections. This drawing is very tiny, so a little wonky in general. I'm not sure I did a great job with the pose because it was difficult and I had no reference. And Maglor's face didn't come out looking exactly like what I imagine; it normally takes a few tries for me to be happy with a new character design.

But, I do feel like the Core Kano Essence™️ is there, even if I didn't execute it perfectly. And I'm sure Maitimo is a little jealous of how silky smooth, flowing and gently wavy Kano's hair is, even after a long day of traveling! Frizz? Don't know her. I tend to imagine Maglor with flowy wavy hair. His facial structure is honestly pretty similar to Maitimo's, but his eyes are different, and I think his midface is a little longer.

Also, I think their expressions came out satisfactorily. Just some tired bros trying to crack a joke before they get thoroughly lectured by Aranya.

This is so lovely!! It's so fun to see you draw Kano, I hadn't realized you'd never drawn him before either!

I think so too! It definitely feels like him, with the facial features and expression. Their faces convey so much about the scene, I love how understanding and kind Kano's eyes are! And Mae looks a little bit bashful after being lectured at for so long, but he knows his brother does it out of concern 😊.

It's always interesting to see peoples on opinions on the characters different hair textures. I'm sure you've seen from my own doodles that I tend to think of Kano's hair as straight, just because that's how it has always appeared in my head. Actually, I tend to think of all the Fëanorians as having straight hair except maybe Celegorm. I love wavy haired Maglor, though! Here and in other drawings I've seen of him, it makes him seem so elegant and approachable.

It definitely fits the scene, haha! Kano may be a little frustrated at Nelyo for hiding his injuries, but they feel solidarity in the fact that they both have to face Aranya's wrath 🤣.

Thank you! It was a travesty, but ironically enough I hadn't done much with Maglor in writing or RPs until you took over, lol! And I tend to not really be inspired to draw a character until I spend some intentional time with them.

For sure! I've always perceived Maedhros and Maglor as both being very warm (though Maitimo is extroverted warm and Kano is introverted warm). Timo definitely is embarrassed about the whole situation, hehe!

I like to think the curly gene comes from the Mahtan side of the family, so Nerdanel has curly hair, where the rest of the Noldor typically have straight hair. I headcanon Maitimo with the full on curls, and the twins and Maglor with looser waves, and everybody else with straight hair.

Interesting! I think I definitely see Nerdanel with thick, bushy hair, but maybe not curls. I suppose I'd say then that the curly gene comes from Miriel, and Celegorm gets it when he gets her hair, but the others just get the straight of their parents. That may change when I sit down and actually draw them all though lol.

I drew Anakin Skywalker while at a work meeting! (Doodling helps me focus.)

Not really my finest work but what makes me proud is, I drew this without a photo reference. It's nice to see that even though it's been some years since I hyperfixated on Star Wars, I still know Ani's features well enough to draw him from memory.

I remember when I was 13 or 14 and first learning to draw portraits, I made a great many failed attempts at drawing Anakin. Usually I'd crumple these up and throw them away. He is a very difficult person to draw. I think one reason why he's so difficult is because he has this combination of sharp cheekbones and a smooth jaw/chin. Normally, people with well-defined cheekbones tend to have a strong square jaw or an angular pointy chin. So that combination of hard and soft features is pretty unique. (And just pretty in general. 👀)

This would have looked a lot better if I had used a reference, and therefore I probably should have made his eyes lower and his midface shorter. But, like I said, I am pretty happy that I managed to draw his complete face without looking at a photo reference. The 10+ years I spent drawing him semi-regularly must have paid off. 😂

P. S. I have a colored pencil drawing, which I presented to Hayden Christensen to autograph in 2019. Unfortunately I'm not entirely happy with that drawing anymore because I did Not know what I was doing with colored pencils back then. One of these days I want to make another, better drawing and get Hayden to sign that.

I really like it!! Lol, I have made my fair share of strange looking Anikan portraits from when I was 13 or 14 too. I definitely had a hard time with his face, for the reasons you mentioned. But I think you captured him really well here!
