Morgoth Seeing The Events Of The Third Age From The Void

Where did you read that Sauron was also pushed into the Void? His spirit remained in M-E (I believe; haven't seen anything else that says otherwise) but so much of his power was lost in the destruction of the Ring that he was basically nothing but a cranky old ghost. From RotK "The Last Debate":

If it [the Ring] is destroyed, then he will fall; and his fall will be so low that none can foresee his arising ever again. For he will lose the best part of his strength that was native to him in his beginning, and all that was made or begun with that power will crumble, and he will be maimed forever, becoming a mere spirit of malice that gnaws itself in the shadows, but cannot again grow or take shape.

Indeed. Sauron remains in Middle-Earth but unable to be seen, heard, or otherwise interact with the visible world. A fitting punishment, in my opinion.

I need some of you more knowledgeable types to chime in on this. My feeling is that "walked behind him on the same ruinous path down into the Void" is speaking figuratively and not literally. But I may be wrong.

Yeah...I thought it was symbolic as well.
