Yeah, that is what I wondered as well. The raw capability to destroy your enemies? The number of foes killed? Which weapon? Sword, spear or even bare hands? Maybe even considering wits?

In LOTR, magic faded as a result of the destruction of the Ruling Ring. Could the loss of magical defences against Nameless Things resulted in an invasion by them, as they predated the Ring, and therefore would not have been affected by its passing?
