Use this thread for jokes and memes that do NOT relate to Tolkien.

Keep things appropriate or we'll have to sick Grond on you ;)

I've been reading one of my German books (I have a couple more) dealing with "common misconceptions".
This one, published 2007, has a somewhat more strident title, translatable about as "That's not right!"
Well, so I arrived at the section on films (having noticed several errors in what is supposed to be right by then), and there was a photo of Peter Jackson.
With following accompanying text:

"Director Peter Jackson has a predilection for fantasy (or fantastic) material. After his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the Australian filmed a remake of "King Kong".
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Isn't he a Kiwi?

Isn't he a Kiwi?
There are people who are geographically challenged about the antipodes ...
This time it's about fruit and birds, the misconception this time:

"The Australian national fruit Kiwi gave its name to the bird." 🥴🥴🥴

I've got one for the books.... (Not about the the southern hemisphere tho'.)
This was many moons ago back in the 80s I believe, waaaay pre-internet.

Attend please:
A person living in New Mexico (the state immediately to the east of AZ [me] and immediately west of TX) was mailed a solicitation for a subscription to National Geographic.
He mails in a cheque with the [preprinted] subsc. form etc.
He gets a reply (but no magazine) from National Geographic saying his payment was insufficient because subscriptions to foreign countries cost more than domestic subscriptions. (Emphasis added.)

This post (which I have reproduced to retain the "Word doc" appearance) is one of the funniest things I have ever read.
I first came across it more than 30 years ago, tho' it may be older than that.
Every time I read it I start laughing.

I have only seen Iranian people make jokes of it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
You know, that is what is so wonderful about the human race... that a (often hilarious) foible or practice which a particular tribe/people think unique to them is actually universal (allowing for some cultural differences details).
This is probably more true when it comes to humor than in any other trait, because there is only one "human nature" .
Such awareness ( and resulting appreciation) may be what finally keeps us from tearing the world apart; that we have far more in common than what differs about us.
