So is this a universal thing?
My brother (who is 20, and in university) tells me he still doesn't feel right using a pen, as he never managed to get his 'pen licence' in primary school (due to the state of his handwriting). 😆

This isn't really a thing in France though, everyone writes in cursive and uses pens at school (I went to school there for a few months when I was 9).

You can remember third grade? 😳 That was 1964-65 in my case (Easter to Easter).
Only dim memory of utensils, not when and where I used them. And they were definitely a dedicated line for schools, not the flashy and probably hideously expensive things used to sign treaties and similar documents.
A two-cartridge job, one in use, the spare cartridge turned 180 degrees behind the other.
And one with a larger refillable cartridge, so involving inkwells - probably not a good idea mess-wise. 😬
