Tolkien Artwork

[Squint-eyed Southerner]

AHA -- caught you reacting. 😄

To clarify (not that you need clarification) what I meant by "early" was that very little Tolkien art had been published, other than in fanzines, at the time Kirk was painting the 25 works he did for his 1973 Master's thesis. I imagine he'd have been working on them as early as '71 or '72. Ballantine bought some for the 1975 calendar, where they even asked for submissions for future calendars.

How things have changed.

(Of course, I don't need to tell you all this 😉)

I wonder, if someone like Bakshi was influenced by Tim Kirk. John Howe, who's about 11 years younger, maybe also.

I found this and I really loved it! It's by Lidoshka on Tumblr, and it's really close to how I imagine (and have drawn, as seen here) Maitimo’s room to be like. A mess, but in a cozy and comforting sort of way. I like how this artist depicted him engaging in a lot of different hobbies, including calligraphy, which is what I headcanon his favorite hobby to be. Also, I'm going to pretend the gold statue is of Aranya!

I know this artist as 'greenapplefreak' on DeviantArt, and she does a lot of Fëanorian family artwork!

Below, one that I've shared before, as I find tiny Curvo's laughter amusing. 😂
