Unnamed Regions of Middle Earth in the Third Age

There are a few areas of Middle Earth during the Third Age I'm struggling to find any proper information about which I'm hoping some of you guys might be able to help me with!

The Region West of the River Lune and East of the Blue Mountains:
  • Is it part of Eriador or Lindon?
  • Does it have a name?
  • Who dwelt here?

The Region between The Shire and the Misty Mountains:
  • Does the area containing Bree, The Weather Hills etc. have a proper name?

The Boundary between Rhun and Rhovanion:
  • Is there a name for the huge gap between Mirkwood and Dorwinion?
  • Is Dorwinion part of Rhovanion or Rhun?
  • Where Does Rhun begin and Rhovanion end?

Welcome to this forum Smill Gill !

The Region West of the River Lune and East of the Blue Mountains:

"Lindon" is the land west of the Blue Mountains, and divided in two by the Gulf of Lune, namely Forlindon (‘North Lindon’) and Harlindon (‘South Lindon’). The area west of the River Lune and east of the Blue Mountains is part of Eriador (which is the entire area between the Blue and Misty Mountains). At the time of the LotR events it was the place where the people of Círdan dwelt at the Grey Havens. I know of no specific name for those parts.

The Region between The Shire and the Misty Mountains:
  • Does the area containing Bree, The Weather Hills etc. have a proper name?

No; it is part of the greater area of Eriador. It is sometimes vaguely referred to as "the Wild".

The Boundary between Rhun and Rhovanion:
  • Is there a name for the huge gap between Mirkwood and Dorwinion?
  • Is Dorwinion part of Rhovanion or Rhun?
  • Where Does Rhun begin and Rhovanion end?

Rhovanion ("Wilderland") stretches from the Misty Mountains onto the Running. Little is said about Rhûn, which means "East", so it vaguely refers to the lands East of the Running; its population had sided with Sauron. Dorwinion lies near the Sea of Rhûn and as it lies west of the Running it is logical to consider it a part of Rhovanion.

JRRT created a greater world than any other (fiction) author(s), by orders of magnitude. I would also consider that he wiped the floor with a ton of authors who have claimed to have written "non-fiction", to the detriment of humanity, for more than a millennium. He was blind to one sect (his own) and may have not realized how badly he contradicted his own "canon" ...

I guess in a way this kind of inconsistency reflects real-world geography prior to the modern era. Evan today the boundaries between regions such as Europe and Asia are not always clear or hard cut

True, we have thundering idiots everywhere -the percentage per 100.000 population varies ...
