What 📔book are you reading right now?

Next book planned to read is The Hot Young Widows Club by Nora McInery. Next non-grief-related book I plan to read is the Illiad by Homer.

Have you decided which translation of the Iliad you will read? (Unless you plan to read it in classical Greek)

Homeric Greek is different from Attic Greek, and would require special study to read.
Ain't no Greeks ever lived in no attics!

I never took Greek (only Latin) but had friends who studied "Classics" (reading Homer and the Greek playwrights and poets) and they always referred to the language as "Classical Greek", (it not being Koine Greek or modern Greek)

But in Attica, the peninsula on which Athens is located, which goes back at least to the Mycenaean period ending in the Bronze Age collapse around 1200 BC.
Koine Greek was spoken during the Hellenistic period following the Classical one, so after Alexander. And it's the Greek of the Septuagint an the New Testament.

I wasn't equating Koine greek with modern Greek.
My "classics" friends had to explain to the uninformed person that Classical Greek was neither Koine Greek nor Modern Greek
And I knew the Septuagint was in Koine Greek (with a smattering of Hebrew and Aramaic).
Latin wasn't even the dominant language of Rome in the last few centuries before its fall... Koine Greek was spoken as much as was Latin.

I'm slowly making my way through a digital copy of Hue Hue or The Monster by H. Rider Haggard, it is another of his books about Allan Quartermain, which I enjoy, but sadly the digitalness of it, leaches some of the enjoyment out.
