Well, I continue to chew on Crichton's Jurassic Park. I confess... the book and movie continue to be completely different, which is fine.
I'm finding his characters pretty flat, though, and at times it feels more like he's 'reporting a story' rather than telling a tale.
He also just slapped me with several 'useless thats', after several chapters of freedom.. I was disappointed.
But I'm only about 20% through, so we'll see if it improves.
It's clear he's trying to 'make a point' given the growth and state of genetic engineering around the times he began those writings. That said, the Godzilla craze and many others were of the same ilk. Even many of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories tackled 'real world' issues of the times.
Anyway, I'm not finding myself quite as 'entertained' as I'd hoped, but I'll plod along for awhile. It's mindless enough for spare time activities.
