Having an epithet of being a prince of the Ăoldor clan of elves (which means the one with knowledge), this character belonged to the House of FĂ«anor, and he was their last descendent. He lived in Endor in Quenya, which was known as Middle-earth, and ruled the whole Eregion. The elf prince ruled during the 2nd Age. He was also considered a master smith, who was capable of creating brilliant rings of high power. The elf prince named Celebrimbor was the one who created the Elven Rings. There were three of them, and they had immense power (they are known as Narya, Vilya, and Nenya). Since this was his most celebrated work, that is the reason why he has been well-known up to this very day.
The life of Celebrimbor
His experiences during the 1st Age
Curufin was the father of Celebrimbor (FĂ«anor's fifth son). His grandfather was FinwĂ«. Miriel was his grandmother, and she was FinwĂ«'s first wife. Nerdanel was the name of his mother. Celebrimbor spent the 1st Age in Nargothrond with his family. He had nothing to do with what his father and Celegorm did to Finrod, Beren, and LĂșthien. Celebrimbor was never a supporter of Curufin, and he even disowned him. When people expelled Curufin and Celegorm from Nargothrond, Celebrimbor did not go with them. He did not want to follow them in any way.
His experiences during the 2nd Age
The 2nd Age was the period when Celebrimbor established himself in Eregion. That is where he wanted to settle, which he did. For him, this was also the period of his collaboration with Khazad-dĂ»m's Dwarves. In 1500 of the 2nd Age, Sauron started a friendship with the Ăoldor of Eregion, calling himself "Lord of Gifts", [1] and the name for this was Annatar. He instructed them in ring-forging, claiming to be an emissary of the Valar (AulĂ«). Sauron managed to trick everyone but Celebrimbor, who did not trust him. To Ăoldor Elves, his teachings were awe-inspiring. Because of his instructions and guidance, smiths could make rings and learn. They were becoming very skilled in the craft. Little did they know that this craft Sauron was teaching them included binding magic.
That magic was in the rings. Sauron forged a master ring in secret. The other name for his ring was the One Ring. This band had the power to control the inferior ones. He wanted to rule beings who were the owners of these rings because he wanted to be in charge of Middle-earth. His intentions were nothing but unpure. He knew this way he would be able to do it because the ring was very influential and domineering. He put the master ring.
As soon as he did it, he claimed dominance. He could then dominate all rings, which meant that all the bearers were entirely under his control. Finally, the elves realized what kind of a person he was, and he showed everyone his true colors. It was when Celebrimbor confronted him, and the elves followed. They never let him touch the rings. Celebrimbor created the most powerful ones, and Sauron could never get a hold of any of them. That was the only way he could not corrupt the rings. Even so, the Dark Lord's ring was still the main one, which meant it could control the other ones.
When making the Elven rings, Celebrimbor was very inspired by the elements of air, fire, and water, Celebrimbor gave unique names to the rings. Nenya, Narya, and Vilya were the names of these three fairest rings. He wanted to name them by thinking of the principal elements of Middle-earth. For the rings to be safe, they had to be sent away. The first one was sent to LĂłrien, where Galadriel was. Gil-galad, who was in Lindon, received the other two rings to keep them safe. Sauron was enraged, and he found a way to take revenge immediately. He attacked Eregion.
In all the chaos, he captured Celebrimbor to force him to tell him about the lesser rings and where they had been hidden. Celebrimbor was tortured, but even in his hardest moments, he never gave anything away. Ferocious Sauron was cruel and even more enraged, so he killed Celebrimbor, who was upon a pole, with arrows. When it was time to attack the elves as well, he used the death of Celebrimbor to parade. He monstrously and grotesquely used brutally tortured and murdered Celebrimbor as some sort of a flag. The Ăoldorin prince, the last descendant of the FĂ«anor line, died. There was another one, but no one knew much about him. It was Maglor, the brother of his father. His fate is widely unknown, but there are some legends. For instance, he wanders the Seashores, but no one knows if he is alone or has a wife and children.

Etymology
In Quenya, Celebrimbor's father-name Telperinquar means "silver hand," or a silver fist. The name was made by merging two words â telpĂ«, and quĂĄr, (silver and fist). Up to today, the origin of his mother has been unfamiliar. Celebrimbor's name has the same meaning as Telperinquar. Two Sindarin words merged into one - celeb and baur, which in this language means "silver fist".
Traits and Characteristics
Kind, selfless, and amiable, Celebrimbor was a character nothing like his grandfather and father. Not once he felt the need to be greedy or boastful about everything he had accomplished, even after he created the rings. He knew the craft like no one else, and some would also describe his obsession with creating Dwarvish. He was quite renowned for his skills in the whole Eregion and Gondolin, a hidden city of all elves. Being an acclaimed smith and artificer, he knew his destiny was to come to Eregion. Here they introduced him to a particular type of precious metal.
For this metal, he used the name Mithril. The dwarves had Khazad-dum's Mine Realm, where they mined Mithril. Later they named Khazad-dum Moria. The Morian Dwarves and the elf prince Celebrimbor became great friends, and they started collaborating. They built a road between their realms, and this is where they could share all secrets and skills. The elves and dwarves lived in peace and harmony, and this lasted until Sauron came and ruined everything with his evil behavior and unpure intentions. Ferocious Sauron prepared a trap for all of them, and all that time, Celebrimbor was apprehensive and suspicious, being the only one who never believed him. He was the only one who knew that Sauron should not be trusted, and the elves thought he was benevolent. Because of his good deeds, Celebrimbor became the hero of Eregion later, and they considered him a great heroic defender.
In the games, the developers portrayed him as someone who made all the Rings of Power. [2] He did not just craft these rings here. He also reforged the master ring, called the One Ring. It happened while Sauron held him. He accompanied the evil lord to the Nine (Ringwraiths, The Nazgûl). The ring did not have its own will before he gave it to it. He was not familiar with Sauron's intentions at first. However, the minute they were revealed, Celebrimbor stole the master ring. He commanded Uruks and Orcs to attack Sauron and fight him, and this was done with the help of the ring.
They claimed over Mordor. Celebrimbor finally defeated Sauron using the ring, but this happened in the ultimate battle. What happened next was that the ring returned to Sauron. It placed itself onto his finger, after leaving Celebrimbor. This meant that Celebrimbor could not control orcs anymore. Since Sauron was the one in control again, he captured Celebrimbor and started torturing him monstrously. He was implacable, and that was his form of punishment.
Before Sauron killed the elf prince, he made him watch his family being tortured and brutally murdered. After this, he beat him to death using the Mithril hammer. In the game, they slay Talion. It happens during a blood ritual, but Celebrimbor is linked to him. That is why the ranger Talion can resurrect and come back. It is only one of his abilities, but he has many more. Alive again, he remembers nothing from his past life, and he is unable to recall his name. When they find the Talion's first artifact (Gollum is the one who helps them find it), he starts remembering. There are more of them, and each object means another new memory can be restored. The last one is in Udûn, but they need to find it by themselves.
Gollum abandons them after a while, and he no longer helps them in their quest. Another character that appears is Ratbag. He is a captain who needs to go through the ranks. After his final progression to Warchief, he kills every other war chief. Ratbag can now control the Uruks that are in UdĂ»n. He eventually dies. Sauron blames him for not preventing monument destruction. He did this using Sauron's hammer. In all of this, there was another person who accused him. That was a Black Captain. [3] He was a Sauron's lieutenant. Also, in Sauron's stead, he was the Uruks leader. The next thing that happens is that Lithariel shows up. She approaches Talion (Celebrimbor), claiming her mother has summoned him to her chambers. Her mother is the Queen, who leads NĂșrnen's Tribesmen. As soon as they finish what they needed to do in UdĂ»n, that moment they are ready to take off to NĂșrnen, which is in the southeast of Mordor.
Here they have an audience. The queen gives them one more essential artifact, and this one is from the past of Celebrimbor. He can now remember more about himself and things that had happened before everything started. The artifact shows them how to confront the Black Hand. [4] They need to brand captains and war chiefs. Now Talion and the apparition can do what they must. They can build their army and brand war chiefs of NĂșrnen (but also UdĂ»n) and the captains. It is all because of the artifact. They can fight the Black Hand. However, the more war chiefs and captains they brand, the more strength they will have. But something happens when they come back to see the Queen again.
After telling her about leaving, she commences forcing the wraith of Celebrimbor to get out of his host Talion. Her words are that "together" they can make Sauron fall. It causes Talion to die, but he tells something Lithariel first. He informs the Marwen's daughter she needs to separate the Queen's staff. That needs to be done so that the Queen is youthful again. The Queen confesses where she went to help her people survive the fierce attack of evil Sauron. Celebrimbor begins to believe that Saruman has become dishonest, wishing the master ring to use it himself. Despite everything, Marwen is here for Talion, and they acquire a smuggler to use him for going to the fortress of the Black Hand. As soon as Talion is in the fortress, he sees a corpse on a pole, bound only by rope.
It commences addressing Talion, and thanks to Celebrimbor, we find out that Sauron's Tower, together with the Black Captain and Black Hand, is to be blamed for this. It is in the stead of Black Hand. Talion comes near to the throne of Black Hand, but the Black Captain shows up, revealing the Black Hand was now searching for Talion. Having approached Celebrimbor, it tells him Sauron wants to forgive him. However, he needs to cast off that "skeleton" and become one with it. Then his dreams will be fulfilled. Celebrimbor reprimands the Tower. Talion and Celebrimbor's apparition will not surrender! Celebrimbor is not deceived, but Talion hears the Ringmaker tricked him. He pretends that Sauron's Black Hand cursed them.
That was the alleged reason for their binding, but the truth was different. Cerebrimbor wanted Talion to be his "host", but he always could release him whenever he wanted. Talion expects Tower to come and fight, but he constrains. He instead creates illusions, which makes Talion deprive him of his might. Talion eliminates the illusions and hears Ioreth (his wife) singing. But this is not her, it is the Tower, trying to brand the ranger. He manages to overpower him and kill him, using his son's (Acharn) dagger to stab him.
He stabs him 4 times right in the heart. Then he shoves his sword, named Urfael, into his laughing mouth. Tower dies, and Talion expresses his rage at Celebrimbor because he deceived him. He wants to join his wife and son and not alive and alone. Celebrimbor made it possible for him to take revenge, which he wanted. The Ringmaker admits he can abandon him. However, they started something, and they need to finish it. They need to kill the Black Hand. The ranger is reluctant, but he agrees. Once more, they are ready for NĂșrnen! The Queen's throne is covered with blood. When Talion takes the crown, more memories come back. They are all in UdĂ»n, captured by the Black Hand. To set them free, he wants Celebrimbor. In UdĂ»n, they encounter elite guards of this villain. Uruks that were branded and war chiefs must fight the other Uruks. Soon after that, they can see the Black Hand and his Talons. He is waiting for them.
However, Talion learns that the NĂșrnen clan is slaughtered, and so are Queen Marwen and Lithariel. They brutally defeat the Talons, and branded Uruks must now fight the forces of Black Hand. During all this time, the Gravewalker goes up the Sauronâs Gate, while the Black Hand is ready for the fight. When they see the Black Captain, Celebrimbor starts remembering more things from the past. He remembers fighting Sauron in UdĂ»n, how Sauron's ring returned, but he also sees savage murders of his family in his head. All of this makes him more powerful.
The Black Hand admits he wanted to absorb Celebrimbor's spirit into his human form, using Sauron's avatar, but he did not have enough strength. He had a choice - standing by Sauron's side. The ranger and Celebrimbor do not have this choice. He carries out the blood ritual on himself, managing to absorb the wraith into the Black Hand. Sauron's avatar if formed. Sauron wants to kill Talion, who is already dying, but Celebrimbor uses all his strength to overcome Sauron. It helps Talion kill his avatar, as well as Black Hand. Vengeance is over, and the duo can experience the afterlife.
But until Sauron's ring is not destroyed, the evil lord may return. Talion wants to be cautious about it. Celebrimbor explains it is not possible to fight him and destroy him. Talion intends to do anything that is in their power, but Celebrimbor disappears. Alone, he looks at Udûn's sun, which is beautiful and red, thinking it is time to forge a new ring. He feels mighty, and his eyes are glowing. In Mount Doom, they create a new band. They get separated when it is completed. The wraith is in Shelob's lair (Cirith Ungol), [5] and Talion goes to get him, using the new ring because he needs it without Celebrimbor.
He must give the band if he wants the apparition back. Shelob's powers are too powerful to fight with the ring, but Celebrimbor does not like how things need to develop. He and Talion have a new target: The PalantĂri, which is in Minas Ithil. The city falls, and Sauron sends eight ringwraiths, which will get the new ring at Shelob's. She gives it to the forgers when she realizes how dangerous for Middle-earth it is. Talion and the ghost are going to Nurnen now, to construct an army with the help of the ring; They get betrayed by a friend but punish him immediately. Talion sees that the ring is already affecting Celebrimbor's sanity.
The duo defeats a Balrog and conquers Sauron's domain, and they are ready for Barad-dûr. Isildur stops them. They torment him and kill him eventually, but Celebrimbor starts feeling betrayed. He wants them to brainwash Sauron and use him to rule Middle-earth. When Talion refuses, he leaves his body, which is bleeding to death. He possesses Eltariel. Talion takes Isildur's ring and turns it into a ringwraith. He plans to recant Minas Morgul. Celebrimbor, who is in Eltariel, left to face Sauron. In his form of Annatar, Sauron is kneeling and begging, while Celebrimbor is ready to brand him. The evil lord slices off the fingers of Eltariel with a blade, like Isildur, had done once a long time ago, but to him. Sauron can now consume the apparition, but there are harmful effects; they get locked, becoming a flaming Sauron's eye. They are now in a battle of wills. They fight until the master ring gets destroyed, but Sauron finally gets defeated. Sauron fades away, but this does not happen to Celebrimbor. He gets freed. The New Ring, which is on assassin Eltariel now, starts to express a longing to return to the one who created it. The actor named Alastair Duncan [6] gave the voice to the character of Celebrimbor.

Important works of Celebrimbor
The elf prince created the Elven rings, but he also made nine for men. His acclaimed creations include seven rings for dwarves (this was created with Annatar). He is also known for the Durin Doors.Legendarium- other versions
According to several accounts, the prince was an elf of the Sindar, Daeron's ancestor. It was written that he used the script of the FĂ«anor. However, Celebrimbor became a Ăoldor later. He managed to survive when Gondolin fell. There is another account, and these are Unfinished Tales. They claim another version is valid. Celebrimbor used to be the Teleri. They accompanied him to exile. There is also a version in which Celebrimbor revolted against beautiful Galadriel. It happened after she established Eregion together with Celeborn. This account says Galadriel and Celebrimbor became friends again. There was no bad blood between these two elves anymore. It was all after everything Sauron had done. How Celebrimbor was portrayed in different media
Electronic games and Celebrimbor's portrayal
We can see the character of Celebrimbor in several video games. He is a part of Shadow of Mordor, but he also appears in Shadow of War. In these games, he is the apparition that helps Talion (a ranger) when he wants to destroy Sauron and his forces. The team of developers of the video games explains why Celebrimbor assists Talion. According to them, he feels guilty because he made the three rings. He feels it because dangerous times have come for Middle-earth. In this challenging time, Celebrimbor believes he is the only one responsible for it. When Tolkien wrote about his character, he only made the Elven rings, the ones that are the fairest of them all. However, this is different in the video games in which Celebrimbor appears and has a crucial role.In the games, the developers portrayed him as someone who made all the Rings of Power.
