Wizards

During the time around TA 1000, a loyal lieutenant of dark lord Morgoth emerged as the dominant leader in the area. This loyal military commander was later known as Sauron. Manwe was the leader of Ainur and the king of Valar and Arda. [1] King Manve consulted his group of ministers about helping the Free Peoples. Finally, he decided to support Free Peoples in their fight against the rogue Sauron. Accordingly, the royal military commanders Aule sent Curumo as the first messenger, and Orome sent Morinehtar as the second messenger to Free Peoples for a proposal of help. There was a requirement of sending the third messenger, but a suitable match was not available. Meantime, Olorin returned from a long journey. The king considered Olorin ideal for the third messenger. However, Olorin found himself as a weak and older person, an unsuitable match for the messenger. But, on the king's order, he finally agreed to go as the third messenger and join the Free Peoples. Varda suggested that Olorin should take along with him two of his friends Aiwendil and Alatar.

History of Wizards

Many Free Peoples were fighting against Sauron. Initially, only five Wizards (Istaris) [2] were to join the Free Peoples in their fight against Sauron. Later, a large number of Istaris joined the Free Peoples. Saruman was one of the initial five Wizards to help the Free Peoples at Middle-earth. The King Manwe ordered them not to use their extreme power to over-power the Free Peoples to match their fight against Sauron. Saruman was the most powerful Wizard. He did not follow King Manwe's instructions. Due to this, the king banned his entry into the Valinor and left him roaming around forever. The Wizards had different individual names and were in different colors. Five of the Wizards who took part in the Middle-earth battle were known as Heren Istarion – the order of Wizards. According to an estimate, out of five Wizards, two blue Wizards went to the east direction before the war of the Ring commenced.

It was not sure whether they took part in the war or not. The Brown Wizards Radagast lived for several years in the forests of Mirkwood. After that, they lived their life based on plants and trees. The other Wizard, Gandalf the Grey and Saruman the White, lived the balance of their life with three Free Peoples. The three people were Elves, Men, and Dwarves. Saruman was the most powerful, capable, and respected man in the White Council. In TA 2463, he became the head of the White Council. Gradually, Saruman Wizard became jealous of Gandalf the White Wizard. He always considered him a traitor and feared a coup from him. He finally became the center of power and forgot the real purpose of Wizards. As a result, during the War of the Ring, his servant Grima Wormtongue slit his throat and killed him. Garima became the center of power. After Saruman's death, his spirit tried to reach the West of Valinor.

But he could not enter Valinor because he had betrayed the King Manwe. His greed for power made him forget the real purpose of Wizards. The empire of Sauron was over at the end of the Third Age. Hence the purpose of Wizards' visit to the Middle-earth was over. It was the time when all the Wizards left Middle-earth.

The Brown Wizards

The Radagast was the brown Wizard. He loved nature and never had any intention to join a war. He was an admirer of the environment and only made a specific announcement.

Saruman, the White Wizard

Saruman was a White Wizard and a great warrior. Because of Banishment from Valinor and harmful behavior with king Manwe, Saruman converted to a naked spirit and left roaming in Middle-earth forever. The other Wizard, Radagast, also remained in the area of Middle-earth, wandering around without any purpose.

Two Blue Wizards

The two blue Wizards were Alatar and Pallando. According to Gandalf, these two blue Wizards might have gone to magical cults towards the East direction. There is no reason why Gandalf thought that blue Wizards Alatar and Pallando escaped to the East direction. He might have observed some unique similarities between knowledge from Maia and the experience of cults. No information is available about what happened to blue Wizards after that.

Two Blue Wizards

A Balrog, Durin's Bane, saw him when he was going over the sea. He attacked him with full power as he knew that Gandalf had the last riding of the ring keepers.

Conclusion

The story is about five Wizards, which were also known as Istaris. The Wizards appeared as the older men. King Manwe directed them to go to Middle-earth and help the Free Peoples to fight Sauron. The life of the Wizards was very long. They had great physical strengths and unique mind power. When the war with Sauron was over, all the Wizards left for different destinations. Out of five Wizards, Saruman suffered great difficulties during the rest of his life. His life sorrows were considered appropriate due to his ill thinking of gaining power and disobeying the king. He always had envy towards other Wizards. That's why he left roaming around in Middle-earth after the War of the Rings was over.
